LadyBear:  No one on here in their right mind is going to tell you that you do or do not have heartburn or cardiac pain.

One way that heart burn and cardiac pain are sometimes differentiated is if the person swallows some liquid antacid like Maalox or Mylanta. If it takes the pain away , it’s not likely cardiac pain, but it doesn’t rule it out.

Follow up with your family doctor if the Zantac doesn’t help.

LadyBear:  I’m a GI nurse and it does sound like heartburn? Which can mimick other things but if it is heartburn than the medication and avoiding vwryain food. (I’m sure he told you about) should do the trick rather quickly. But if you feel generally out of sorts or feel strongly this is sokething else then see another doctor. It couldn’t hurt.

I’m no doctor, but my very similar symptoms were heartburn. Lay off the acidic foods, red meat, soda, alcohol, and carbs for a few days and see if that helps. Advair was the only medicine that helped me.if that doesn’t work, ask your GP for a referral to a specialist.

No one here could possibly know the answer to this. Go see another doctor if you aren’t happy with the diagnosis.

LadyBear:  Zantac and Maalox work in entirely different ways. Maalox neutralizes stomach acid. Zantac is an acid reducer.

Of course no one on the internet can be sure, but it sounds like heartburn to me too.  Just because the Maalox didn’t work doesn’t mean that it isn’t heartburn or that something else won’t work.  As julies1949 said, different medications work in totally different ways.

I was incorrectly diagnosed with GERD a while ago.  Your symptoms seem to be more consistent with acid reflux than mine though.
