If a designer creates a gown, with a detachable skirt, are you expected to pay extra for the overskirt? I can’t find anywhere that you are supposed to pay extra so trying to find out if I am being ‘upsold’ or not…designer website says a feature of the dress is the fact that is comes with a detachabe skirt so…I’m worried I’m getting duped (I’ve been told I have to pay extra by one bridal shop).

More backinfo: I found and bought my dress on Friday (hurray!!) and I absolutely LOVE it. When I went online to send pictures to my mom (she lives a plane-ride away so couldn’t be with me when I tried it on) I discovered that the dress I purchased comes with a detachable overskirt.
What I tried on was a beautiful slim-fitted dress…with no mention that it came with an entire detachable skirt. The designers website shows that it comes with a detachable skirt and when I emailed the shop to find out why I didn’t know about/receive the overskirt, I was told that it did come with an overskirt – for an additional price.
Is this normal? When you look up the dress it is the same style number/sku…which to me means – same dress – one price…No? I can’t find anywhere online if you normally pay extra for an overskirt…I feel like I paid for a dress and only took home half of it. Does anyone know if this is usual?
If it is – ok fine, I’m just disappointed that I didn’t get to make the decision for myself and now feel like I’m being upsold after the fact 🙁
Thanks so much Bees. <3

mrsnbee : Contact the designer and let them know that their dresses are being sold in pieces? The designer has the right to know and may force the shop to give you the rest of the dress.

Mine came with a detachable train, which was included in the price. I think the shop is wrong here and You should reach out to the designer.

- Wedding: August 2013 - The Liberty House
I would call a different shop and ask them the price and if it includes the skirt

Mine came with detachable straps (so it could be strapless or not), and these were an extra cost. I don’t know how much they were as I definitely wanted the straps, but if I didn’t want them the dress would have been cheaper. All the pictures of the model in my dress is wearing the straps though.
