I have a song I love that I want to walk to the aisle to and my mother hates it. Okay I had two friends that hated it too. But a few others really liked it. My mom says a song should be a melody and not have words. I have not read that rule but I am rule reaker anyways. My Fiance played it for me and I fell in love with it. The lyric mean something to me and I really don’t want the wedding march. No offense to those who do. So is it a yes or a no? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WD-lBi-9DVc

I love that song! Do whatever makes you happy and relaxed on your big day. “Traditionally” processional music is instrumental, but there is no set rule saying that you have to keep it that way. Plenty of other brides have walked down the aisle to poplular artists. I do think it would be amusing if wedding music police came chasing down the aisle after somebody though… haha sorry just had to share that visual.

Ok, so I don’t personally like the song that much, but if it has meaning for you and feels right, I say absolutely go ahead! If you can picture yourself walking to it, then that’s all you need to know. ๐

I love it. Its really nice and the fact that it means something to you makes it all the better. Like the PP said, it is your wedding, do what you like. That’s my philosophy when it comes to planning my wedding. ๐

@Katielee: Haha that’s ok they would have to come after me too. My grandma looks at me like I’m an alien for some of the non-traditional things I want to do. Your song has me watching V for Vendetta now. : )

We had 80’s hair metal tunes for our processional and recessional ๐ Do whatever YOU want! It’s your day to represent the two of you! No need to stick with tradition. Make it your own!

@kate.barrick: I think that you should do what you like and what makes you happy.
When I got engaged my grandma told me ‘Everyone has an opinion of what a wedding is. None of them are the same yet they all think that are right. And they will openly tell you what they think is right. What matters now is what your wedding is. Forget the rest.’ I love my grandma. So long story short, who cares what anyone else thinks. If you love it, it is perfect.
Also, I do high end catering, so I have been at MANNNNY weddings. I have heard all kinds of songs. This one isn’t that out of the box.

We used a non-traditional song with lyrics… it meant something to us and set the tone for the ceremony. My Fiance was in tears so it was good in my book! ๐
