This is one of my all time favorite songs, I personally think it would make for a great first dance.  I think if you guys both love it then go for it.  It’s YOUR first dance.

Huge Death Cab fan here. I had it short listed for our first dance song too. We ended up going with a Black Keys song instead.

You have to think that most people probably won’t know the song and therefore won’t really be paying attention to the lyrics, but instead will hear the beautiful melody. The lyrics are dark, but they are about spending a lifetime together and thats the point of a marriage anyways. If you love it, then go with it πŸ™‚

Unless one of your guests looks up the lyrics I don’t know that they’ll realize it’s dark.

I love this song!! I really wanted to use it in our wedding too but I was worried about it being too dark with the whole “you’re going to die” vibe haha. I ended up not using it but i think it is ok to use if you dont mind that a few people might find it morbid.

I think people who know the song may find it a big dark.  If I heard it at a wedding, I’d raise my eyebrows a little, mostly because I know (and personally love)  the lyrics.  I just don’t think talking about death in the first dance song sits right with me.  But if it means something to you, who cares what anyone else thinks?

@mrsspaghetti:  We are using Everlasting Light. I absolutely LOVE the lyrics, not that anyone will really be paying attention to them, but they mean a lot to us. Plus, the Keys are our favourite band!

Let me be your everlasting light
Your sun when there is none
    I’m a shephard for you
    and I’ll guide you through
let me be your everlasting light

Let me be your everlasting light
    I’ll hold and never scold
    In me you can confide
When no ones by your side
Let me be your everlasting light

    Oh baby, can’t you see
    Its shining just for you
    Lonliness is over,
    Dark days are through
    They’re through

Let me be your everlasting light
A train going away from pain
    Love is the coal
    That make this train roll
Let me be your everlasting light

Death Cab is my very favorite band, and the song is beautiful, but I do think it is a bit morbid.   At the same time, it does have a sweet message about undying love, and you seem like you really want it for your first dance, so I think you should go for it πŸ™‚

I love that song and I don’t think it’s too dark at all, in fact when I first heard the Jayme Dee version I briefly considered using it for our first dance too but ultimately decided to go with a song that had a lot more meaning for me personally.

This is our first dance song, so I might be a little biased, but I say go with whatever you want.  Who cares if people think it’s dark?  Personally, I think it’s eternally romantic.  If people want to think it’s about death, that’s fine.  It’s your wedding, and if it feels right to you, go for it!

We are using a ‘death-like’ song for our first dance, so I say go for it!
