I love those books!! 🙂 I’d say totally go for it. My husband and I did a mix of gamer geek chic, Dutch, and normal stuff. For those that weren’t familiar with our geeky stuff, it was a conversation starter and people loved the idea! I copy/pasted my reply about this subject from this thread: http://boards.weddingbee.com/topic/nerdy-bride
We didn’t do a full on theme, but we definitely had elements of geek in our wedding! Some of the things we did included using the EVE Online font in our programs and table names. We used space ship names from EVE Online for our table names. We had one part of our e-pics taken in front of our computers with EVE Online up on the screens in front of us, and last but not least, we had an EVE Online wedding cake!
Here are some pictures to show what we had.
(our names on the top picture and the phrases “The Wedding Party” and “Other Special People” are in the EVE Online font)
Our Dutch version of the programs were longer (they had the transcript of the whole ceremony in them) and so had more of the EVE font.

Our geeky E-pics:
And our wedding cake:
The whole thing together represents what’s called a fleet fight happening with the cupcakes. The red cupcakes are enemies, the blue ones are friendlies. The cake itself has pictures a ship each that Anton and I are known for flying in EVE. You can see us each holding the cake showing the side with our personal ship on it! 😀
A few other things that were less visual also tied in our wedding to EVE. For instance since we met via EVE, our pastor (he’s known me for years) incorporated it slightly into our wedding ceremony. Here are some ideas of how he did that:
I think Anton knows how Adam felt!
EG: Maybe appropriate … Anton & Teri first met playing on ONLINE game – EVE Online. Teri says she never expected that their relationship would ever be more. But then [date?] the two met in Iceland for EVE fan convention.
Anton: “I thought she was the most beautiful, fun, smartest woman I’d ever laid my eyes on and I was perplexed when she showed interest in me in anything more then a friend.”
Hmmm… that’s the only one that I can find in the rough draft transcript he gave me… but there were a few references in the actual ceremony. I loved how he pulled it in!
Lastly, we chose to have bubbles at our wedding as we were walking out of the chapel. In and of itself that’s a pretty common thing for brides to do. But the fun part was that we had a few of our EVE friends there and they had a fun twist to how they thought of the bubbles! In EVE there are ships that can put out warp disruption bubbles and they are commonly known as “bubblers”. The 2 friends that were there told us later they were bubbling us like crazy with their “double bubbles”! I’m not sure I can explain that, but suffice to say it was a game reference that both Anton and I got and loved! It made this seemingly common unrelated-to-EVE part of the ceremony all of a sudden have a very EVE feel to it! 😀
Anyway… those were our geeky elements! 🙂
