Whether that is a good deal for the money depends entirely on the reputation of the venue and comparable prices in your area.

If the Australian dollar is similar in value to the American dollar, I’d say this is just about right if it “beverage package” doesn’t mean open bar and a great deal if it does for a place on the water and DJ and cake included.

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with planning a little if you know you’re getting engaged soon. FWIW I’m spending a little over $20,000 for 100 people, so it sounds like you’re getting a good deal to me! I think it partly depends on how much control you want to have though–if you go through a venue that provides everything you’re limited to their options. On the other hand, it’s a lot less stressful! I kind of wish I’d done that instead of having to bring in vendors for absolutely everything at my venue.

I’d probably go for that if I liked the place.

The difference in the wording of your thread title (is this too expensive?) and your poll (is this good value?) means that you may get people selecting yes when they mean no, or vice versa.  I would recommend changing either the thread title or the poll question.

Well if its in Queensland and the beverage package includes beer and wine I think it’s great value:)

Yes, I think that is a good price in Australia for the type of venue that appears to be in the photos and all that is included. Particularly given all the inclusions such as a DJ, chair covers, easel, no extra hire fee etc.  If your SO thinks that is too expensive then he will be in for a nasty shock at what venues charge in Australia for standard wedding receptions! I certainly saw many for a lot more than that in my search (admittedly they were in wineries that are now very popular to hold receptions in, but still.) I don’t recall seeing many, if any, that are much cheaper than that.

I would show him a range of options once you are closer to planning the wedding and he’ll realise what these things cost and that this is a decent price.  My Fiance (who ironically has been married before so you think he would have been prepared for it) railed against the cost of photography but once I showed him the prices of the decent photographers (not even the super popular ones who are much more money!) in our city were all around the same mark and that I wasn’t being super extravagant he realised that was the going rate (and I made it very clear I would scrimp on most things but that hiring an sub-par photographer to save $1000 was not one of them).
