I need some advice… I have picked a deep red (like a dark red wine) as one of our wedding colours for our November wedding. I want a second colour because I’m not a huge fan of a red & white or red & black colour scheme. I was googling and I fell in love with dark red and deep purple.
However, my brother is getting married next year and purple is one of their colours. I really don’t want to step on any toes, it’s already bad enough… we’re getting married before them, their engagement party is now joint. I would hate to have a similar colour too! But I can’t think of anything else that would go well with dark red.
So… does anyone know of a good colour to go with red?
Here’s my inspiration pics and a picture of their colour scheme.

I dont think it would cause any problems. But if you’re really wanting a different color, I think red and turquoise look amazing together.

Turquoise/teal would look nice:

@peachacid: I LOVE the look of red and turquoise together, but that was a colour at my first wedding. And it really stood out so everyone will remember it.
Ugh!

@orchidaloha: Rede and purple will probably be the next accent colors in my living room, with yellowy-green walls. So, go for it!

@FauxPas2012: I usually make my accent colours in my house red and purple in the winter. It looks awesome!
Do you think the purple I like would be too close to my FSIL’s wedding?

I think that as long as you make red the main color and purple the accent color, then you’ll be fine.

@orchidaloha: Since turquoise/teal is out, you should just ask your future sister-in-law. Show her your inspiration pictures, and ask if they’ll be too similar.

@JenGirl: That’s definitely the plan! We don’t need too many coloured things, just some flowers, invitations, maybe candy/cake, and the favours. We don’t need centrepieces so it’s really just a colour to accent the red and that’s it. Thanks for the reply!

@peachacid: I keep looking at the pictures you posted… teal might not be out yet! It looks beautiful with red, and perfect for a November wedding! I think I will talk to her, I just don’t want her to say it’s fine when she’s really not ok with it. She’s super nice and always wants to make everyone happy so I could see her doing that.

@orchidaloha: Keep in mind, too, that purple with another color, like white or a pale color, will look VERY different from purple and red. So that’s another way that your weddings will be different. But I would ask her. Oooh…do it like this. “Hey, I saw an awesome wedding picture the other day [show her your first inspiration picture]. Is this what you’re thinking of doing?” Then see what she says…either, “Yeah, that’s EXACTLY what we want!!” or “No, ours will be totally different!” Or somewhere in between…=)

@orchidaloha: i would ask your fsil to see how she feels about it first. definitely have a backup. my first thought was tiffany blue but since that is out my next suggestion would be red and apple green. i think they are beautiful together and not used very much. your time of year would be ideal for this colour combo.
