    It makes me think of Alana Bloom (from the Hannibal tv series) AND of Tamora Pierce’s character.  I personally think it’s a very classy name.

    I have a cousin who named her daughter Alana.  She named her after the china pattern she loved but not the one she registered for.  sigh

    mistress_anne and blueEyes90:  YES that is the first thing I thought of when I saw the name!! 🙂 But I would think it is a beautiful name regardless. (But those books were the best. I wanted to change my name to Alanna after I read them)

    I know someone whose daughter is named Alanna. I think it’s a very pretty name.

    Also (and please know that this is not directed specifically at you at all), I don’t really understand why people ask the question, “Would you ‘judge’ someone …,” because everyone makes all kinds of judgments about all kinds of things every day.

    Judgment in and of itself is neither positive nor negative.  It can be a very GOOD thing.  We use our best judgment regarding when it is wise to pull out into a flow of traffic, or when determining what decision to make about a major purchase, or even what to wear, depending on the weather, or what to order for lunch, based upon what foods may or may not agree with us even if we enjoy the taste.

    I think what people really mean when they ask this question is. “Would you think negatively about …”

    I know lots of people with that name and don’t cosider it to be strange at all. I even know of 2 accepted pronunciations of it.

    @Bracelet00:  it is?!?!  Rats.

    @blueEyes90:  Well, that’s my name so I wouldn’t judge someone with it!  Although I spell it differently.  One N, different vowel at the beginning.  But the pronunciation is pretty much the same.
