Hello lovely bees! Hope you all are well!
I’m going to a wedding this weekend. It’s indoors downtown in a city on a Saturday evening, the ceremony followed by reception is at 5pm. I asked my friend the groom how formal and he said that’s he’s wearing a tuxedo. (haha)
I don’t have a lot of winter formal dresses, but I would love a chance to wear this sparkly just above the knee gold dress i have. It’s not flat, shiny sequins, it’s more like beaded but with definite sparkle all over. I have a cream colored drapey shawl/sweater with a wide open ‘knit’ that looks cute with it and tones it down.
Just thinking… it’s it too ‘look at me’ with the sparkle? And is even a cream drape/shawl too much like wearing white?

@chillinchillin: I don’t think it would be. Picture?
Like this V
or this V
I think the second one is alot less flashy and acceptable.

Yeah, pictures would be helpful. It’s hard gather an accurate opinion based on your description alone.

here’s a picture of the dress and shawl on the hanger..obv a way dif shape and look than when it’s on but i’m just worried about the fabrics. These are taken with the flash on so it’s as sparkly as it gets (even extra bright and sparkly) here: (sorry so big!!!)

I would say yes. Too flashy. Sorry ):

Honestly, I think the dress is fine. flashy wise, but appears to be a tad short? But I don’t like the shawl. The dress + shawl combo don’t seem to go well together.

If you have something else then I’d wear something else. This is a pretty subjective thing and even if the bride doesnt think it’s too flashy one of outspoken family members might, either way why risk it

Is that a shirt or a dress?!?! Short, glittery and a white doesn’t seem like a good plan for a wedding.

@chillinchillin: Do it! It’s so pretty. Love sparkles 😀

Sorry, but I think the shawl is too casual for a formal affair. And the dress seems to be rather short, which, combined with strapless and sparkly, make it a bit too flashy for an evening reception. I’d suggest looking for something else.
I was at a wedding several months ago where numerous female guests were dressed for the after-party, not the wedding; super-short, tight, strapless, shiny dresses paired with 5-inch heels. I’m sorry, but that’s not classy and definitely not appropriate for an afternoon vineyard wedding.

I think it’s a bit too flashy for a wedding. Look at it as a good excuse to go shopping 🙂

I think you need to keep looking. It looks really short. That paired with sparkle and strapless… not good for a formal wedding.

Since it’s short and strapless, i would say don’t wear it. have you looked into renttherunway.com? you can rent dresses from them and it’s awesome. i’ve used them for a few different events and it’s nice because i don’t have to buy a dress for every event (if i were to buy a dress, it wouldn’t work for every situation).

I wouldn’t wear it. Too sparkly.

I agree with most others. The dress is cute, but the combo short/flashy/strapless is too flashy for a wedding.
