I don’t think it’s weird, but I probably wouldn’t take one unless I was 100% sure you were extemely hygienic.  But I’ve always been weird about that.  Even in elementary school I’d only eat certain kids’ birthday treats.

ilovelift :  I would take a cookie from a tray/dish, but not a jar. Even if I trust the hygiene of the maker I don’t trust the other takers…

A plate of cookies? Yes. A jar of cookies? No. That’s too many hands touching all the cookies.

People bring cookies and stuff into my work all the time but we usually just put them out in the kitchen.

I agree with the others here that a jar just makes it harder for people to grab a cookie without touching other cookies. Maybe if your heart is set on a jar make it one of those ones with a large opening and place a set of small tongs beside it? Sort of like they do at hotel front desks?

I think wrapping them individually is a great idea!

I never thought jars were gross until opening this thread, didn’t know people perceived them as such.

jayrock :  I don’t think people think jars in general are gross, it’s just that if you are pretty sure Bob in accounting never washes his hands or Jane in tech let’s her dog lick her mouth… do you want those cookies?  At least with a plate odds are better that they didn’t touch everything.

I like the covered cake plate suggestion above, and maybe tongs. Individually wrapping cookies is hugely, unnecessarily wasteful… wasn’t there a thread about everyone saving the environment? Seems counterproductive though participants may have been different, I didn’t read it.

jayrock :  For a home I think they’re fine, but for a workplace the platter just feels more hygienic.

skunktastic :   yeah I get what you’re saying, but then that must apply to door handles, other shared equipment at work etc..like when does the germophobia end? it’s not like you’re going to get sick from cookies (most likely).

I dunno, I guess I never would have thought twice until reading this thread and just ate the cookie lol.
