“I thought that they would cut me off, but since they didn’t, I thought maybe it was OK because I’m not working,” Clayton, 24, told Local 4 news in Detroit.”

Uh, get a job!! Like the rest of us. Or live off your winnings until you run out and then get a job! But whatever you do, don’t take money from the government when you don’t need it.

Grrr. Folks like this make me so mad. Here we have Congress trying to shred many of the safety net that poorer folks have and this lady comes here with her greedy attitude. I don’t know how she fell through the loophole but she ought to have stopped receiving welfare. Greedy woman! So yeah OP, she is wrong.

Sounds to me like government fraud which is actually a pretty serious offense. I’m guessing that’s going to catch up to her.

She is absolutely in the wrong.  First off – why was she wasting money on lottery tickets in the first place if she couldn’t even afford food?  And now that she has won, she absolutely does not need (or deserve) government assistance.

Um no.  You’re supposed to report changes in your income to them.  So it wasn’t the government’s fault.  She can’t be that stupid.

She’s a leech! Yes, she is wrong. She shouldn’t have taken the mil in a lump sum first of all, since right there half got blown to taxes. But $500k is still A LOT to live off of w/o siphoning welfare that clearly isn’t needed right now.

@Mrs.KMM:  Good point. I hadn’t even thought of that. If she was financially poor, why spend any money on lotto tickets?

This really does make me so angry. There are people who are in legitimate need and she clearly is not. Honestly, I think she should be punished for abusing the system.
