No, it’s not too old fashioned; wear what you like. I think it all depends on the style of the ring and the personal preference of the person wearing it.
Here is mine. I was hesitant at first about how it would look with my skintone, but I’m happy with it. 🙂

I always wanted platinum. But when Darling Husband and I were picking out an ER, he said that he always imagined his wife wearing a yellow gold ring. So we got YG. I love it. I think it’s all about what you like, your style and the setting. I think a fancy colored diamond might look best in one type of gold over another.
I don’t think YG is dated, and as PPs have said, it will all come back into style! I think these kind of rings make YG seem dated… not the metal! Go with what you like!
Here’s my YG set which I don’t think will ever look dated

@mrsmay07: Your nails are SICK! Very, very cool. I also really like your rose gold band.
I agree that metal colours never really go out of style, though popularity changes every so often. I like both – I love to wear yellow gold accessories in the summer, when I’m kinda bronzed and wearing maybe an olive green, chocolate brown, ivory, or black outfit. With my undertones (Asian), yellow gold looks great, but I think white/silver metals work on me too. I like colourless neutrals so I’ll be going with platinum myself, but I say go for the yellow gold if that’s what you like! 🙂

I don’t have a problem with yellow gold. If I don’t like a ring, it’s because I don’t like the style, or I don’t like the mix of the color of the metal with the color of the stone. Some things I’d much prefer in yellow gold, but others I’m not as big a fan of.

I have a very classic 6-prong round solitaire that’s yellow gold (the head is platinum). I love it, and most of my jewelry is yellow gold – it’s what looks best on me.

I love yellow gold. I don’t think yellow gold looks dated…unless it’s one of those 80’s/90’s marquise…cluster rings. Yellow gold looks great with classic and modern designs as well as antique…or art deco designs. I even tried to love the whole white metal trend…but i hate how white stones pretty much blend in with white metals. I love the color contrast between yellow gold and white stones….as well as some colored stones. To me…yg is timeless and looks very pretty when done right. p>

I was looking for white gold, but when I tried this on I knew it was my ring.

@Purple_Bride: I love your rings!!
OP, go for yellow! I got white, and it really sucks having to get rhodium done when it starts to change. If I would have known that, I may have chosen yellow too.
Yellow gold will never go out of style, in my opinion.

I have white and wish I got yellow. I mostly wear yellow gold and I feel it’s a better color on my skintone. Go with what you love.

I love yellow gold! My wedding set is platinum because I wanted a “deco” look, but I own a lot of yellow gold and I adore it! I’ll probably get a plain yellow gold or 18k rose gold (more buttery than the “copper” color of the 14k rose) band to wear when I don’t want to wear my set!

Here’s my yellow gold e-ring and band:
The ering was bought new, the band was inherited from my great-aunt via my grandmother – aunt left some pieces of jewelry to my grandmother and she distributed the pieces among the kids and grandkids.

@KaylaFromAR: I have yellow gold and this is what I have to say: It’s not old-fashioned, it’s classic. You cannot go wrong with yellow gold. And besides that, these rings are forever, and fashion is always changing, so I don’t think that’s necessarily a reason to hold you back from what you want.
I have a yellow-gold engagement ring and I love it!

Get what you like…because in 25 years white gold will be considered old fashioned. Metal colors and trends change and then come back in style. You can’t go wrong with any metal if you like it!

I really love yellow gold. It’s actually crazy trendy in NYC, and I think it will spread. It’s pretty fashioney too. I like that its classic but on trend right now as well. For me the key was looking for delicate pieces so that it seems modern.

It’s all in how the stone is set. I think I have a very modern yg setting.
