I’m in the final stages of my dress alterations and I’m still struggling with the length of my dress. About an inch and a half of the dress lies on the floor. My seamstress tells me that’s the way it’s supposed to look and hemming it would take away from the elegance of the dress.
I don’t want to compromise the “look” of the dress, but I don’t want to trip over it while I walk down the aisle OR step all over while I dance.
What length is your dress?

If it isn’t too difficult to hem your gown, I would do it. I think it should sweep the floor, not drag over it.

Mine touched the floor, just barely! Ignore our goofy faces =]

My dress will be just above the floor. I have to walk down a whole flight of steps for the ceremony, so I don’t want to trip and fall!

Do you have shoes on? One thing to consider is how much shorter the dress will be once you take your shoes off too…
I think technically it’s supposed to be about 1-1.5″ off the floor. Or, enough that if you were to side you hand across the floor it should “clear” the dress.
