Mine is diamond white, but it looks bright white to me. And no, lol, white definitely isn’t just for virgins ;). No one will question your wearing or not wearing it.

@loveknows: i’m not sure if white is ONLY for virgins… but I recently saw an episode of SYTTD Atlanta where the family was mortified that the bride might pick an ivory dress instead of a white one (What would people think? Don’t you want to be pure) and I couldn’t believe it!  They are all pretty similar if you ask me!

People just wear different shades to suit their skin tone… Ivory is better for paler women while white is better for tanned… or so they say 🙂

Mine is ivory, because that was what the sample was (I bought the sample).  The ladies in the bridal salon said that ivory is more popular nowadays, because it photographs better?  Hmm…dunno.

Before I got into wedding forums I never realised that white and ivory were considered different in terms of purity. I still don’t really think of ivory being the choice if you’re not a virgin.

I’m wearing a pale gold/honey colour as it suits me best.

I haven’t bought mine yet but I expect it will be ivory. Nothing to do with purity, just that I’m a redhead with hopelessly pale skin and pure white clothes wash me out.

My dress is ivory and champagne colored. I look horrible in white. I think it’s silly when people bring in the concept of using a white dress to symbolize purity. White dresses have only been popular since Queen Victoria married. Prior to that blue was the dominant color and most people just wore their sunday best.

I ordered mine in white so I could buy a veil and bolero that I was sure would match, I never thought twice about it. When I picked it up, I realize I’d tried it on in ivory (which I think may have looked better on me) but I guess there’s no going back now…white it is!

mine is off white, but not ivory. it does not have a yellow undertone the way ivory usually does. maybe it’s champagne, not sure. this has made it nearly impossible to find other things (like fabric flowers or pearls) to match it! argh.

oh, but my mom is making my dress, and the fabric is the most gorgeous silk. heavy weight, and not too shiny. I know that a real silk dress would have been so expensive if I bought it in a store, so I consider myself very lucky.

@MrsTVLover: i saw that episode and thought the same thing – the girl is still a virgin if she wears ivory….

my dress was called candlelight? haha i guess inbetween white and ivory, but it looked pretty white to me.

i had to go look up white wedding dresses on wiki and found this to be interesting –

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wedding_dress

many people assumed that the color white was intended to symbolize virginity, though this had not been the original intention. (It was the color blue that was connected to purity.)

    interesting right? –

White did not become a popular option until 1840, after the marriage of Queen Victoria

you never know how much is true on wiki, but i thought it was neat.

I’m wearing ivory because I’m pale as a piece of paper and white just didn’t look good on me. It was too stark.

I don’t think it has anything to do with virginity…I’ve seen plenty of pictures of weddings with white dresses, ivory dresses, even rainbow dresses, and the bride’s sex life never once crossed my mind.

For some reason I’ve always assumed that diamond white is even brighter than white.  Am I wrong?

I am planning on ivory (based on my paleness) so its not a pressing concern, I’m just curious 🙂
