Actually, my DH’s boutonierre is the only thing that differentiated him from the groomsmen.  They all wore formal, traditional full-dress tails with white shirts, white pique ties and white vests.

My FI has a white cally lily boutonierre whereas everyone else has deep red rose ones. He’s also wearing a burgundy tie & vest and everyone else has silver.

@peachbaby4008:  My groom wore an off white vest and tie. The groomsmen all wore colors to match the bridesmaids.

He’s wearing a dark gray suit while the guys will be in black.

His vest and tie were silver, the guys had charcoal.  He also had a different tux, one that fit him better but was more expensive, the guys didn’t want to pay that much so they all had cheaper tuxes. Also his boutonniere had a white flower with the other colors to match my bouquet, the groomsmen just had the purple flower.

@peachbaby4008:  What will he, and they, be wearing?

My husband wore a white tie & pocket square while the groomsmen all wore red ties/pocket squares. He also had a red rose boutonierre (the groomsmen did not wear a boutonierre).

My husband wore chucks and his groomsmen wore fancy shoes. Whatever those are called.

@Birdee106:  Oxfords, probably.  Might have been bluchers/derbies

@peachbaby4008:  Love those bouts!  My groom is wearing an ivory vest & tie, and the groomsmen will be in blue to match the bridesmaids.  All their boutonierre’s are the same.

@peachbaby4008:  Suits or tuxedos – purely out of curiosity?  Going with the different colour will look just fine.  He could also vary his suit – go double breasted, or go with a different lapel style from the groomsmen, if you were looking for other ideas.

But, I would say changing the colour of the boutonierre is the best way to make his bout stand apart a bit, if that’s your objective.  Different tie colour, etc. are also popular methods.
