    @Elizabear

    We have insurance for my ring. We purchased it in addition to our existing rental insurance.

    We have insurance through jewelers mutual. My ring has diamonds from our late mothers in it so even if I lose it, that aspect can’t be replaced no matter what.

    This!  We don’t have insurance either for the same reasons.

    We got mone insured for the amt we paid for it, not the appraisal value (which is actually twice what we paid) and it was a must for me because I’m a bit of a disaster when it comes to having nice things.

    Yes, my Fiance made sure and insured it before giving it to me…he’s watched me take off rings and sit them in various places around my house so he made sure that “mysterious disappearance” was included.

    I think he also bough insurance or some type of extended warranty through the jewelry store that they will replace diamonds that fall out, repair things and size for free.

    @Elizabear  We have my engagement ring insured because it would not be affordable for us to replace it on a whim. We do not have our wedding rings insured as they cost < $500 for both of them, and we could easily buy new ones at that price point.

    I think it makes sense to insure something if its important to you, and you can’t afford to immediately replace it. Thus the reason why people buy car insurance and homeowners insurance.

    Fiance works in an insurance-related industry, so he was sure to get insurance for the e-ring.

    I have bad luck with things so I made sure my Fiance insured it and he finally insured it 6 months after he proposed.

    We had my ering and our wedding band insured through our home contents insurance. I guess for us it’s more for a piece of mind as I wear the ering everywhere I go and I would hate to fork out another $15-$20k in case I lose it. Doubt SO will want to get me a new one at that price!

    Definitely! I’m forgetful/absentminded and my ring was pricey so it is definitely worth it for me. But I can see where it wouldn’t make sense if the ring wasn’t expensive or you’re really good about not losing things.

    @Elizabear  nope…mine was an heirloom and has a chipped .53 carat center…I had it unofficially appraised and when the jeweler thought the stone was .75 carat (it was set in a necklace) he estimated the value at $750. Insurance won’t prevent anything from happening to it and the emotional loss of my grandmother’s ring would be far greater than the monetary loss. No amount of insurance payout would make up for that, so there was no point for me.

    it’s appraised at 9K so yup, it’s definitely insured. I’ve had cars that cost less money!

    My husband had my ring insured. It’s around 40 a month or so I think. While the sentimental value can never be replaced, it’s reassuring to know that the ring can at least be replaced.
