We got the ring insured effective the date of our engagement. We put it on my parent’s homeowners insurance, since I still live at home. I knew the ring was coming but obviously wasn’t going to insure it and let my parents know that I knew it was coming. I wouldn’t dream of wearing it if it weren’t insured, I can’t wrap my mind around the thought that there are uninsured diamond e-rings out there! The cost to insure is way less than the cost to replace 🙁

He had the ring for a few months but kept it in his gun safe. As soon as we got engaged the ring was added to our insurance within a week. Way to much of a gamble to not insure it.

He got the ring in his possession on Saturday, proposed on Sunday, and added it to the homeowners policy on Monday. He didn’t really know about insurance, and actually said “Well just don’t lose it.”

But I have way to much of an investment on my finger to feel comfortable without it insured.

Our regular existing home insurance had enough on the policy to cover the cost of my ring, so it didn’t require its own rider.

We insured it after he proposed as the whole thing was a surprise (we share finances and joint accounts and insurance etc so he wouldn’t have been able to put it on the insurance without me getting wind of it) – it was only uninsured from the time he picked the ring up from the jeweller to when he propsed for about three days.

My ring is insured under it’s own policy (I live at home and I was told that putting it under my parents or my own home policy one day would not help unless my house was affected as opposed to just losing the diamond).

But also, our jeweler insures the ring for life.  We have the separate policy on it now and plan to keep it for a year or two as extra protection to make sure my diamond is set well, but is it worth having both forever??

Fiance got mine insured right after he picked it up.  He literally drove to the insurance dude right from the jeweler.  And then he hid it for almost a month!

I am a ‘waiting Bee’, our engagement ring is currently being custom made, but it is insured under its own policy. The policy starts on the day we/he pick/s up the completed ring from the jewellers and covers it anywhere in the country, for any reason (theft, loss, fire etc) as well as for up to 100 days when I travel overseas.

I couldn’t wear an expensive piece of jewellery on a daily basis without it being insured; if I lost my engagement ring (or wedding ring), while the sentimental value is irreplaceable, I would be comforted knowing that I can have it replaced, without worrying about spending X amount of dollars to do so.

He got it insured before he proposed (I’m kinda forgetful/a klutz so he didn’t trust that something wouldn’t happen to it).

FI’s and my jewelry (including e-ring and some other pieces) is insured through an independent jewelry policy that has nothing to do with our homeowners.  After speaking at length with our agent, we chose to go with something separate, as there are several different caveats to a HO rider.  Limits, for one.  The HO rider wouldn’t cover the value of the bracelet Fiance bought me for Christmas last year, much less my other jewelry, and his Tag.  I don’t know; I just feel much more secure knowing that should anything happen to our jewelry, it is covered.

I’ve had my ring since June, but I just purchased a policy with Jeweler’s Mutual/A Perfect Circle. It covered more, whereas the homeowner’s insurance rider wouldn’t cover the replacement value.
