My SO is a hunter and wants to hang all his deer on the walls and wants everything to be hunter camo. I like some of the country antiqueness in SOME of the things but I don’t want be living in a zoo. haha

@okqueenbee:  lol – my hobby is the problem.  at our old apartment we had 2 bedrooms, 1 of which was the office/craft room.  In our current place we don’t have that luxery.  I had planned on using the sunroom and hanging curtains to hide my crafty mess but FH claimed it as his ‘office’ so I’m in a corner of the living room…I try and keep it tidy but my craft corner usually looks like a typhoon hit it.

We live in a tiny, TINY NYC apartment and I think if we didn’t have a home office for his stuff (for him, its engineering books, blueprints, his guitar, etc) that we would not be able to live together. It’s technically our home office, but I’ve pretty much conceded it to him as long as the stuff stays out of the living room!

My brother’s girlfriend puts up with his lego models. He has a ton, and they have a one bedroom. She should be cannonized.

Ugh my SO makes little models and dioramas- luckily he didn’t put up a fight when I told him they would be confined to his office. Definitely not in the living room! When we go house hunting we always have to think where his special hobby room will be

My Fiance is a chef and artist, we dont have a spare room for it so his artwork and tools are sprawled all over the place. It’s extremely sexy to have an SO that’s creative but not when it’s causing a mess, especially one that he doesn’t clean. There’s a big paint stain on one of our walls that he just covers with a piece of furniture – *heavy sigh*

@okqueenbee:  YES! It drives me nuts. Luckily ours stay outside, but it still junks up our otherwise beautiful back yard. My Darling Husband is great with mechanics, and is always buying non-function things (boats, motorcycles, cars) and fixing them up to resell. It makes good money, and he enjoys doing it, but I always love the few weeks in between jobs!

I love Fiance and his recent affinity for guitar playing. I even like guitars.

But my house is so frickin small I trip over them left right and centre. Electric, base, accoustic, even rock band guitars (sigh) our house is not big enough for you to be this versatile!

My Fiance collects robots. Yes…robots! Luckily they only take up one shelf in our bookcase…but they are scattered throughout (we have a robot cookie jar, robot xmas tree ornaments, a robot desk lamp, etc) as well. Cracks me up. Doesn’t really bother me…I moved into his condo, so I’m not very well going to tell him to get rid of all is stuff now! When we buy a house, though, it’ll have more of an “appropriate” place (i.e. finished basement, den, hobby room). 😉

@iarebridezilla:  YES we always have fermenting jugs, growlers, and other equipment sitting around.  I’m considering just making our dining room/kitchen area more “industrial” or something when we move next so it all works together haha…

Otherwise, Fiance is a computer genius and loves to work on stuff in his spare time.  We have probably about 10 laptops piled in a closet which is normally fine until they ALL come out at once for parts.  We also have about 7 cables crisscrossed across the living room floor.  He decided recently to set up a media server and system off his main laptop so the cords are constantly moving when he moves the laptop…can’t hide them anywhere really.  Next place we move, we’ll set it up from the get go to keep them out of the way.

The dog tripped on one the other day and ripped the socket and everything out of the wall, so yeah, they need to go.

Luckily dh is only into comics which are stacked on our desk. Though he did insist on hanging his captain America poster which is pretty visible but that was the only thing he cared about so I had to let him do it :p

DH’s hobbies are fishing, shooting (and hunting when he can), and pool. Luckily, our tiny second bedroom that doubles as our library (my hobby is reading!) has a decent-sized closet, so his equipment (gun cabinet, rods, etc.) are kept there, nice and out of sight.

My hobby tends to take over the apartment though – books tend to end up everywhere but the kitchen (and sometimes there if I’m cooking something that needs regular tending like rice or pasta)!

@okqueenbee:  Yes aaaahh!! My fiance is a miniature sculptor. Because our house is very small and not finished yet, we have a lack of proper storage space– some of the cabinets have no doors (and haven’t for years, he’s also a builder but procrastinates horribly when it comes to finishing our house) and we don’t have enough shelves. His miniatures, molds for miniatures, and tools, and boxes full of related stuff are usually scattered about the house– there’s one unfinished corner of the living room that by default is storage, so that’s always full of cardboard boxes and one of the artist’s toolboxes I bought for him (to reduce the messy boxes!). And often there are little boxes and sketchbooks on the couches, and the dining table usually has a pile of tools and boxes of modeling clay on it. . . argh. The TWO art toolboxes I got him for Christmas hold the worst of the tool messes, but he needs a large cabinet for the finished miniatures and molds, and he needs a paint bottle carrier since the paints are crammed in an annoying cardboard box!

I love that he does this and he is an amazing craftsman, but the fact that we have little storage space drives me crazy. Sometimes I have fits about all the stuff everywhere. Supposedly he’s going to build a cabinet for the miniatures next. . . I need to get him to start that since the little boxes are becoming a problem again.

So yes, my FI’s hobby is something of an eyesore in my decorating! My decorating is nowhere near done. . . I didn’t want to do too much before we were engaged for some reason, and now I am limited in how much I can do by money and time. But a couch slipcover is coming sometime soon! And we need to organize everything better.

@iarebridezilla:  ME TOO!  Except he always wants to put the carboys in our bathroom – we have heated tile and he can set it to the ‘perfect temperature.  In the office we also have a bookshelf dedicated to the display of his various bottles and brews. Takes up sooo much space.

My husband collects old games and gaming systems.  He doesn’t play them… Just collects them.  Luckily we have an office where they are displayed!
