I’m wondering if I am crazy, or if someone else has experienced something similar. I did my first IUI with clomid+trigger this cycle. I responded well to the clomid and my last ultrasound showed 1-17mm, 1-15mm, and 1-13mm follicle and a 8.7mm triple lining. I was told to trigger the next day at 10pm which gave my follicles another 36 hours of growth time before the trigger. I went in for my IUI 36 hours after the trigger, and it was a little painful as my cervix was completely closed. I also did not feel any ovulation pains or have any EWCM around the time of the IUI. However, 5 whole days after the trigger (72 hours after my IUI), I did get EWCM, cramps, and it seemed like my cervix was more open. I am really convinced this is when I ovulated and that we totally missed our chance with the IUI. Has this happened to anyone before? I’m really hoping I’m just being crazy, but the evidence is pretty clear. I go in for a blood test tomorrow to check my progesterone, but since I’m not doubting if I ovulated, but rather when I ovulated, I don’t think it will shed much light.

I’ve done 3 clomid+ovidrel+iui cycles so far, and on all 3 I’ve gotten noticeably EWCM or watery CM around 5 or 6 DP IUI, as well as cramping. I think it’s a side effect of the ovidrel. Clomid is notorious for drying up CM, so that’s probably why you didn’t have any around the time of the trigger shot. I usually triggered when I had a follie around 20mm, which you probably had when you took your trigger shot (follicles grow 2-3mms a day). I never checked my CP though, so can’t add any help there!
FX this cycle works for you!

do you temp? i don’t and I took RE’s word that i O’d 36 hours after trigger. DH and I still BDed the next 2 days just to make sure.
also, my RE’s office prescribed progesterone supplements that i would take twice a day starting the day after IUI regardless of what my progesterone level was. i took the progesterone until my bloodtest. unfortunately it was negative, so i stopped the pills and AF came 3 days later.

CityBearBride: Thank you for sharing, and putting my mind at ease! I hope it’s just some weird post-O thing like yours.
ajillity81: I don’t temp as my RE advised against it (I always ovulate on my own and do not have PCOS) and I’ve been told the trigger messes with temps. We did BD once after the IUI so technically we wouldn’t be totally out if I ovulated late, but we took a break after that. I was told washed sperm only lasts about 24 hours after the IUI so it would be a total waste if I ovulated late, and dangit DH had a good sample with 35mil and 97% motility post wash. Whomp. I was not prescribed progesterone as I need to do the 7dpo P4 test first, but I don’t think they will prescribe it unless it’s actually low.

In case anyone was wondering, my doctor’s office confirmed last Friday that the trigger shot did not work, as I had a progesterone level of 0.6 at 6dpiui. Went in for an ultrasound and more blood work today and they are stumped as to what’s wrong. My uterus showed that it was in the luteal phase of my cycle, my right ovary was quiet, but my left ovary where I had had two big follies showed just one big one at 23mm. They said either that was the corpus luteum or that I never ovulated the largest follicle, and my body waited until the other smaller follicles were big enough to ovulate. This has by far been the most devastating failed month I’ve had in the last 1+ years of TTC.

whitums: I’m so sorry that your instincts were correct and you didn’t ovulate.

I would be devastated, too. Big hugs!
I haven’t done the trigger yet (planning to next cycle), so I don’t have any advice for you. How is your RE planning to proceed?

LittleRiver: I hate to bump this, but wanted to say thank you for the kind words! Yesterday was a very hard day for me. Don’t let my issues with the trigger shot scare you, I’m told I am a rare bird and it works great for the majority of women. My nurse called yesterday evening to tell me that my progesterone still didn’t rise at 9dpiui and between the lack of progesterone and the fact that I have the one random 23mm follicle still there, it is unlikely that I ovulated, and that the one follicle probably will not ovulate at all since its just sitting there and is probably “too old”. I have never had issues ovulating before and got pregnant in the past with an ectopic, so they won’t prescribe a new protocol until I get AF since that should help solve the mystery of what went wrong. Everything looked very text book leading up to my IUI so they are very confused as to why my body freaked out and what happened to the other mature follicles. I’m guessing I’ll never know, but hope something else works.

I dont know if this post is still active but I had the same thing too. Probably one of the 5% that Ovidrel doesn’t work for. I also had three mature follicles 20, 18 and 15mm and I didn’t ovulate. I started getting scared when day 14 bloodwork was negative and no period. As I type this I am Day 55 of my cycle and no period. I am on Day 6 of my Provera though and hope something shows up. This was my first IUI cycle and the doc wants to do 2 more before we move to ivf. I am in my late twenties so he says I’m still young but I’m just confused as to why I would not ovulate with clomid and trigger shot of a monitored cycle. I have learnt not to feel anything again, the funny thing is I used to have regular periods till I started fertility treatments so I don’t know if I should just let it breathe and keep trying. On the other hand, I want to feel like I’m doing something but I am stuck. DH and I have unexplained infertility, we just clocked the one year mark of trying.

tryee: I just got so confused when I saw this thread, because I was thinking “woah that’s what happened to me!”…then I realized it was my thread lol. I am so sorry you’re going through this…your story sounds exactly like mine! I also ended up with about a 60 day cycle and it was the first and only time I had to take meds to start my period. Like you, I always ovulated on my own and never have had that problem until I used ovidrel. My RE said it was a mystery as to why it happened but he had a theory. He believed that my eggs were larger but not necessarily good, mature eggs so that the ovidrel caused follicle death. The other possibility was just straight up that me and ovidrel did not go well together. My RE is from a very well known and respected clinic in the US, so to hear him say it was an unknown was definitely a strange feeling. At first he thought we should try the same protocol and monitor even more, but I refused to put myself through that again for experiment’s sake.
I ended up taking a break for about two or three months after that to let my body get back to normal. I went to the gym, ate healthy, and just let my body be. I then went back to the RE for a second attempt at IUI and my RE agreed to try gonal f injectbles in addition to clomid and I used a different trigger shot (novarel). My RE was super diligent in monitoring me after the trigger shot and we confirmed that two eggs were released the day of my IUI. I did end up pregnant that cycle! I’m telling you this to hopefully give you some hope and clarity, because I remember how confused and awful I felt after that first IUI. This is not your body’s fault, the meds were just not right for you. I hope your RE is open to trying different meds if/when you are interested in trying IUI again. If you have any questions at all or just want to vent, feel free to PM!
