I’m having one of “those days” it started off so well and now I’m feeling a bit overwhelmed with a few personal things and work that I can’t really do much about right now.
When I feel like this I try and help myself snap out of it by saying things like “It could be worse, I could…..” but I can’t think of anything today that will give me some perspective and clarity.
Wanna give me a reality slap?

Sorry, that was the first thing to pop in my head.
be the poop sccoper uppr at the zoo.
be the guy who cleans the trash tubes at Disney.
be the homeless guy on the corner who is talking to himself because he has an undiagnosed mental disorder.
be one of the 1800 elderly people with some form of demntia who are taken away from their homes and left in crowded places, and often become the homeless guy on the corner or die. ( this is a real thing, its called granny dumping no joke.)

… have cancer
… be a citizen of a poor third world country
… be experiencing a war, plague, famine, industrial or natural disaster
… have had a loved one just pass away
… be in debt so high you know you could never pay it off in this lifetime
… live in an extremely high crime area and constant fear for your life
… have extreme nausea right now
… have nobody in this world who loves you or even remebers you
… be on your deathbed right now, instead of having your whole life ahead of you!
I’m a little too good at this, huh? But it does work for me 🙂

@imalittlebirdie: OMG I’ve never heard of Granny dumping, that is so sad 🙁
@joya_aspera: Yep a little too good at this!
OK these were both brilliant lists, and I do feel humbled by them…

I don’t know what your personal beliefs are, but, I always find that as I begin to thank God for the blessings he has bestowed on me, I begin to realize how many I have.

Not allowed to have pets! That would be more sad than being dead i think. I love my Puppins.
or *knock on wood* all the pets to be dead. I would be ABSOLUTELY DEVESTATED.

I interned for The Make-A-Wish Foundation when I was in college. Believe me, your circumstances could always be worse. Planning a rush wish for a little girl who has 3 weeks to live can really put things into perspective.

@Soon2BeeMrsG: Not sure if this approach actually helps. I’ve tried it myself, but I just end up getting even more depressed because now I’m feeling sad for X Y Z person, or imagining horrible things happening to those I love.
You should try some things to help you get into a better state of mind.. like exercise or focus on something that you’re looking forward to.. or plan a vacation.. go home and order pizza and watch a funny movie tonight.. go shopping.. that sorta thing. And write lists at work so you can break down the more stressful tasks into more manageable chunks.
And remember.. this too shall pass. That’s what I’m telling myself – I think I’m coming down with something.. I feel like crap but dragged myself into work today… ugggh!

Be in Syria where the government is using chemical weapons against their own people;
Be in Burma where they are ABOUT TO carry out genocide against several ethnic groups.
Be in North Korea where the government could force you to turn in your own family for execution.
But…you’re in America…with a job (I assume), a roof over your head. People aren’t watching you all of the time, you can meet up with your friends after work, you can express your opinions, you can vote, you can move if you don’t like where you are…

@canarydiamond: +1. I’m much more depressed now that I read the thread than before, ha.
