Ok, so I know I started the weekday proposal thread a few days ago, but I was wrong! We got engaged on Saturday!
Background: Fiance had been out of the country for two weeks for work, which sucked. But while he was on this trip, his company informed him that he would have to go on ANOTHER trip ten days after he got back…this one lasting for OVER a month (meaning he’d be missing Thanksgiving, our 5 year dating anniversary, and cutting it really close to Christmas). I was devastated. And though he was upset, too, I obviously didn’t know to what extent…he was planning on proposing during that time! So while he was on his work trip, he was rushing to shuffle around all the plans he already set in place and make a proposal happen this past weekend. In a matter of three days, he had to throw together something that he assumed he would have at least three weeks to plan. So here’s what he did…
On Friday night, Fiance told me that he wanted us to do some nice things that we would have done over the holidays had he not been called out to work…little surprises and such. He also told me to pack a bag because we would be spending the night in a nice hotel downtown. We live in New Orleans and we both grew up here, so we’re slightly infatuated with the city. Saturday afternoon, we pack up and he drives us to the Marriott where he had booked a room. As soon as we get in the room, we both sit on the bed and he starts telling me that this isn’t how he wanted to do this, but he wanted me to have something before he left…something that he’s known he wanted to give me for a long time, and something that he’s had for a while. Then he asked! I don’t really remember the exact phrasing of the words because we were both a little emotional. It was a very nice moment, and we were both very happy. Later, we went to dinner at GW Fins and spent the night in the Quarter!
Here’s for the real surprise…the one he couldn’t reschedule for this weekend because all available times were booked: we’re taking a chartered plane to view the city aerially, complete with chocolates and champagne! I could not be more thrilled…this sort of thing is EXACTLY what I love! However, I felt a little sad for him because I know this isn’t exactly how he wanted it to turn out: he really wanted to pop the question while we were in the air, not at a hotel. But everything was wonderful, and we are so happy. Just thought I’d share how it went down 🙂
annnnd the ring is the one my grandpa gave my grandma :). He had to beg with the jewelry store to get it dipped in cleaned in two days…
