You could always do something fun like a father daughter tarantella? Love the thread bu the way. I just joked to my dad the other day about dancing to O Mio Babbino Caro- how fitting for a wedding. Ha.

Well, it would probably be horribly inappropriate, but I personally love “Bella Ciao.”  tongue-out  It sounds wonderfully upbeat, too, if you don’t understand Italian/know what the lyrics mean.  Definitely not sappy.  The Modena City Ramblers do my favorite performance.

i’m not sure how fast of a song you were looking for, but i love “per te” by jovanotti–he wrote it for his daughter so that might be a sweet nod to both your italian heritage and you and your dad!

I know this isn’t what you asked for but what about picking one of the songs that you remember listening to with your family as a child? They would know the significance and meaning of it even if it’s not specifically about a father and daughter.

VictorianChick :  idk about italian songs or anything specific but I didn’t pick a sappy song for my dad and I really. I picked a song we used to rock out to together on car rides. I don’t want to be a blubbering mess.

I don’t know about italian songs, but my dad and I we danced to “my wish” by rascall flats and a minute in we switched the song to “gangham style” and jumped around for a bit. We aren’t very emotional people.

Not necessarily all father- appropriate but amazing songs, so maybe you want to go through these. Your father will likely know quite a few of these 🙂

Lucio Battisti- anche per te

Amedeo Minghi e Mietta:vattene amore

Jimmy Fontana- il mondo

Nicola di Bari- La prima cosa bella

Mina- parole parole

Domenico Modugno- La lontananza

Massino Ranieri- la voce del silenzio

If you tell me from where he is originally, I can possibly suggest some songs from a singer who comes from his region.

VictorianChick :  Also, ditto with the hands off approach. My father was born in Italy right after the war, the youngest of 8, and his dad died when he was very young, so they were very poor. He really did not know how to be the hands on, emotional father; in fact, he was very authoritarian and it’s only now that he’s in his 70’s that he realizes how important family actually is.
