@katie395:  to be honest I wouldn’t do this. You never know what your TTC process will be like. I think it’s fine to look at the baby stuff but I wouldn’t be buying diapers and wipes or anything for that matter. Its one thing to see an outfit and think “OMG so cute! im buying it!” in the rare instance you see something so adorable that you just have to have it for your future child but diapers and wipes? I don’t know if I would call you insane but I know if I came home with diapers and wipes and we were not even TTC yet, Fiance would be freaked out and think I was nuts.

I agree with @stardustintheeyes:  because it might take you some time to conceive and any baby items lying around might end up upsetting you.  I’ll be honest, I bought baby socks for each holiday the year leading up to TTC with my first husband.  By the time we got to the time for us to TTC he had changed his mind and decided he didn’t want any more kids (he had a child from a previous relaitonship.)  It became a major issue in our marriage and we ultimately got a divorce as a result.

When I packed my things to mov eout of our home those freaking baby socks mocked me and I threw them all away.

@beachbride1216:  this is exactly why i would advise against buying baby items. There are so many things that can happen and it would be terrible to have reminders if something goes wrong or it takes much longer than anticipated.

Plus, I gotta be honest, if a friend of mine or my sister was buying baby things and wasn’t even actively trying for a baby yet I would think they were kind of crazy.

@katie395:  what does your husband think about you buying the diapers and wipes?

It’s not a good idea & a little crazy. Having baby things in the house can make you crazy. TTC can be a lengthy process. It can be stressful, you never know how long it’s going to take. There’s the possibility of fertility issues & miscarriages. It’s just not a good idea. My first pregnancy my sister bought this pack & play bc she happen to find it dirt cheap on clearance at target. I miscarried a few weeks later, looked at it everyday it was depressing. Finally just gave it away.

@katie395:  I think this is the same thing as women buying wedding stuff before they’re engaged.  It probably seems crazy to most people looking in, but for the people it involves, I’m sure it just stems from excitement.  Best of luck TTC!

I kind of have an idea of how I would want to decorate a baby girl’s nursery. Sometimes when I’m out somewhere I see something that would be perfect with the theme and I am so tempted to buy it. Then the logical part of me speaks up – we aren’t even TTC, what if we don’t have a girl and I’m stuck with all this stuff?, etc. I think it can be tempting, but I haven’t and probably never will do it. My Fiance would probably think I’m nuts if I came home with baby stuff lol. As far as diapers and wipes… I can’t say I’ve ever been tempted to buy those things, but I can understand your excitement

@katie395:  Trust me I totally get the excitement. I am sooooo ready for another baby! I see baby things & I want to buy them lol. The pampers I feel pretty commercial makes me baby crazy. Dd keeps asking when she’ll have a baby sister! She even picked out a name for her lol.

Sorry I have to agree with the PP’s. Coming from someone who has been TTC for 11 cycles/months. I would just look at all the cute baby stuff, don’t purchase anymore. It is hard to not be able to concieve as you planned. Not saying this will happen to you and I truly hope it doesn’t. At this point I cannot even see a pregnant women or a small baby or child without breaking down. Take it from those of us with experience… I am very much like you in the sense of if I have my mind set on it I run with it 110%… But you have no control over TTC. GL

@katie395:  I am not currently TTC but will be next year. I find that when im in a department store I will oooh and ahhh over the cute baby things and I get excited to buy that stuff again. Its one thing to be excited and look at all the cute stuff. But the things you bought aren’t like cute baby items that you just couldn’t resist. They were diapers and wipes. The amount of time you have before an actual baby will be using those things is quite lengthy even if everything goes smoothly. My advice, is to lay off actually buying things. Look all you want, but to make a trip to target soley for browsing the baby section when you aren’t even TTC seems almost obsessive.

Don’t have kids, but I’m pretty sure there’s an expiry date on diapers and wipes, since there are some chemicals (germ-killers? deodorizers?) that could turn in them. There should be enough sales in the 9 months leading up to baby’s arrival to stock up on items – even if there’s a per person limit, you can always go back or get friends and family to grab some for you as well. My mom used to send me and my sister through separate cashier lines when there were great sales on certain items 😉

But I would probably grab really cute things that aren’t perishable that are good deals/I NEED to have (decor, onesies, toys).

I didn’t do this before TTC, but I can totally understand. The baby sections of stores are so. damned. cute! But I would just look and maybe make a mental registry for now – start comparing baby products and reading reviews etc on them to get an idea of what you will want to buy/register for once you are pregnant. If you start buying things now, you may end up with not much else to buy once you actually are pregnant and that’s one of the main fun parts of being pregnant is preparing for baby! But yeah, I totally get where you are coming from, haha.
