Have any of you ladies heard this yet? When they hear I’m getting married people are all excited and asking questions and I tell them when our date is (10/09/11) and say even though technically it’s “next year” I still have time (since it’s only Feb and the wedding is in Oct) and almost immediately they go “Oh no, it’ll be here before you know it! It goes by so quickly.” Eeekk!!!! Now I have been known to be a procrastinator – I’ve gotten much better in my old age but I was the person doing things up to the last possible minute. I’m so afraid that I’m going to be late for my wedding or not ready. Now as my previous post shows I did book a place and I got my dress/veil/headpiece which are two major things (at least in my book) but there seems to be a million other things that I want to do for the wedding (decorations/std/favors/centerpieces/etc, etc). Part of me feels since I do have time I don’t want to do everything now to have it sit in my small apartment and have the chance to either be (a.) lost or (b.) destroyed. What type of timeline do you ladies have? Thanks for letting me babble, I appreciate it.

Actually I got engaged 12/31/2008 and when we set a date and told people shortly after, they thought it was soooo far away since no one was used to hearing 2010. It sounded so futuristic to everyone! We kept saying, next June instead b/c when we said June 2010 everyone was like “Why are you waiting so long??” We were like “It’s a year away!”

I think people are trying to be encouraging, telling you that the excitement of getting married is coming — NOT that you’re running out of time for planning!
You’re doing great, you’ve got a year and a half to plan!

I’ve been getting that all of the time! That and, “Being engaged is the best part” and the all too, positive, “It’s all downhill after that, “
Some people think they are being funny/helpful and I don’t think they realize how insensative or even rude they come off.

we got engaged exactly 2 years before the date we set our wedding for. engaged on june 30, 2008 and the wedding will be june 26, 2010.
i’ve been doing small things here and there for the past 2 years (been working on my invites, which go out next weekend for over a year! DIY rocks! lol)
but yeah – it WILL be here before you know it! it’s now the 4 month mark and i feel like i have SOOO much to do!
BUT even though we’ve had 2 years – it’s been more like i just wasn’t in the “mood” til lately!
do what ya can and take your time!

I’m on a 2 year engagement plan ha and it goes by quick sometimes when life gets super busy and other times it’s just draaaaaaaags and goes by sooooo slow! Just keep up with a checklist and remember that the beauty of a long engagement is that you can space out projects and getting things done, just don’t let it all pile up. Don’t fret, you’ll be fine!!

omg – I was told that, and they were so right! I started out with 19 months and now I’m down to 5 months. I don’t know where the time has gone. So I’m for sure chiming in with them: it’s going to go by FAST! 🙂

We just changed our date from October 16, 2010 to October 1, 2011! A little relieving to say the least.
For the past several months, I’ve been in mega-planning mode thinking it would be this year, so I have a TON of planning done which feels nice (nothing concrete yet).

It does go by fast, and those checklists come in handy, so as a fellow procrastinator myself (I’m doing right now and my wedding is in 11 days) get as much as possible out of the way and done with. Best of wishes, and happy planning!

I’m with ya girl, I just want to get the location set so I can start think-tanking on all the invites, programs and Save-The-Date Cards that I am totally going to have plenty of time to DIY. We’re scouting two venues tomorrow since we’re both on a “staycation”.

I haev heard it alot and it is SO TRUE!! I got engaged on Oct 17 last year and am getting married on OCt 16 this year…I thought I had plenty of time with a year engagement to wait to plan. I am glad that I started instantly, though, because I needed it. Don’t rush it…let it be fun, but don’t take it for granted either. Here we are down to almost 6 months and I can’t believe it!

I definitely have to agree. Fiance and I were engaged in March ’09, and are marrying July 31. When we got engaged and settled on a date, I remember thinking “OMG, it’s SO insanely far away” But here we are, two days from double digits. I’m blown away by how fast it’s gone by; life just happens in between now and the wedding date that makes it FLY by!!!

Yea I changed my date also and I am also sooooo happy I did!! I got engaged aug of last year but did not plan a date till Feb of this year, so I started planning, and I was getting stressed out so we changed the date (on top of looking for a house) so I’m glad we changed our date, even tho it do seem far away I know it will go by quick!
