It takes them a little while to get you in so call right away and they will schedule you for 6 weeks or 8 weeks or whatever that practice normally does. They will tell you to start taking prenatals asap. Congrats!

Congrats.  I would call right away because OB appointments fill up fast.  Every office and doc has their own policy, so they will tell you when (how far along approx.) they would like you to come in.  My office sees you at about 8-10 weeks, but every place varies.

@figgnewton:  definitely book in to see your GP now…they’ll want to confirm the pregnancy with bloods, and if you’re going that way you’ll need a referral for an OB (they can get busy so it’s important to get in sooner rather than later). I don’t know whether its the same in the US but where I live OBs are usually attached to certain hospitals, so if there is a particular hospital you want to deliver at, you’ll need to go with an OB who works from there. So there’s a starting point for researching which OB you want (if you don’t have a family one) GL! 🙂

I called the day after my BFP and they set me up for 10 weeks.

ETA: this was for an OB appointment. I was in the process of switching to a new GP and they were not interested in seeing me – they said to go straight to an OB.

I say call now and let them know, if it’s a doc you’ve been to before they will probably just have you come in and do another test and do/schedule an orientation appointment. I did research on OBs/hospitals/birth centers in the area and decided which one I wanted to go to and called the day after I got my BFP. I don’t have a primary doc, so they had me just go to an urgent care and get a urine test to confirm and set up my first appointment at only 4.5weeks just to do a pap and get lots of bloodwork done, had an US for dating purposes at 6.5 weeks and then have had regular 4-week appointments since 8 weeks. 🙂 Good luck and congrats!
