I just have to say, I was at the gym today on the elliptical machine and the guy next to me had the WORST B.O. ever! I could barely breathe. I wish there was something acceptable to say at that point…but I just had to bear it. Unfortunately there were no other open machines for me to move to. Gross!

What I don’t understand is people who feel free to just rip a fart right next to me on the machines…as if I’m not taking in huge gasping breaths or anything. I don’t want to inhale your fecal particles. Not even a little bit.
Hold it in until you are by yourself, PLEASE!

Ugh, I hate that too. I wish there was a polite way for gyms to enforce hygeine!

I used to question why my husband showers before he goes to the gym and to play basketball all the time, but I’m happy he does now, I know he won’t ever smell for anyone else!

@R.Elliott: This happened to me today on the treadmill. I totally got “crop dusted”! Ughhhhhh

Ummmm sometimes running/ellipticalling makes you have to fart….not that I would know about that or anything…I read it in a book…

@Leeluu: LoL. Yeah I think B.O. and farts are a little different eventhough they smell just as bad. I can understand if someone lets one slip, aerobics wiil do that to you.

hahahahaha. Thank goodness it’s not just me. I totally thought that myself when I read the fart thing. Running is occasionally good for the digestion, what can i say.
But BO wise – totally agree.
And to add to pet gym peeves: PUT THE WEIGHTS BACK! And if you are so sweaty you leave marks on the bench, WIPE IT DOWN!

I do Bikram yoga, and we have this one posture called “wind removing pose…”

@R.Elliott: LOL to fecal particles! Can I use that one? I don’t do the gym anymore, I work out at home and run outside and let me say, I enjoy not having smelly people around me!

I know this isn’t the same thing but these stories made me think of the time i was on a plane for 14 hours (LA–>Sydney), sitting next to a 10 year old kid…at first i was like, awesome! A tiny compact kid, no rolls spilling over into my seat, and he proabably won’t ask me my life story and make me talk for hours when all i want to do is watch movies and read.
But let me tell you, over the course of the first hour or so of the trip, the breath that developped on this kid was actually toxic. I don’t know what could possibly cause such terrible breath on a kid that young, and if it was a medical condition I really feel for the kid, but there developped this fog of rotting food/plaque/vomit/everything bad you’ve ever smelt around the kids head, made worse by the fact that he was congested so breathing entirely through his mouth. I’ve never smelt anything like it to this day.
ALso, one time when i was at the gym this total gym rat ‘roid head was doing inclined leg presses with something ridiculous like 250 lbs and i guess he pushed a little too hard on the last rep, cause he evacuated his bowels all over the bench. They had to close the gym for the day to get the hazmat guys in to sanitise it!

I’ve had this experience many times at the gym, and the worst has to be on the one occasion where the guy next to me had awful B.O., and to make matters worse there was a huge fan pointed right at him, blowing his stench right in my direction.
But the most awful, horrible, terrible place for B.O. has to be the bus. I ride it to school everyday, and I get on the second to last stop so it’s usually pretty packed. Some of the people that you get to be pretty snug with are pretty…stanky. :/
