I’m a very strong advocate for this cause as well. I have a brother with Asperger’s Syndrome, and I am also a Special Olympics coach, and a nanny for a child with Autism. It’s sad how often I hear this word be used so casually.

I’m a glee fan and hadn’t seen this, thanks for sharing! I work at a center for adults with developmental disabilities so this hits very close to home 🙂

Thank you for posting this, My brother has autism and I cannot stand it when people use the word retarded around him. The look on his face breaks my heart. I just wanna scream “He CAN understand you people”…jeebus

Thank you for posting this.  It always makes me so uncomfortable when any deragatory terms are used in everyday language.  Hopefully with time, people will begin to phase out the use of ALL deragatory words in everyday language, and replace them with words that actually reflect what they’re trying to say.

@judithsr: Knowing our society it will go from “That’s so retarded” to “Thats so mentally handicapped” followed by a ton of giggles (I actually get that on a lot when I call people on it)
