Yes– call your IT department directly, obviously this is a real problem that’s causing issues in your office.  It needs to be fixed, and it needs to be taken seriously.

that is very frustrating but DO NOT take this over your bosses head. That will seriously burn bridges with her. Go to her about it with the notes you take today. if she still shrugs it off, then ask her who else she suggestions you bring the attention to because it is upsetting customers and affecting your work and has to be addressed.

@OneOfTheseDaysAlice:  ut finally believed it wasn’t me when it started happening to them, too.

Have them go to her with their complaints too so she realizes it’s the phone system. Have your co-workers document the time and caller etc… too!

How annoying. This happens to me, sort of–I’ll transfer a call and tell the person they have a call, and if they take too long to answer or the caller had already been on hold, the caller will sometimes hang up after I transfer and the person gets mad because there’s no one there.

ETA: I just saw that you don’t really have an IT department. That’s lame. Just keep doing what you’re doing, document the calls, and keep talking to your boss.
