@joya_aspera:  I don’t need to re-read it, it didn’t have links or quotes the first time so I’m pretty sure it doesn’t now.

As of right now I have a problem with your OP even without anything else you’ve said on the bee. I’m going to wager that so do the majority of women that responded to you. So I’ll ask again – where are your supposed reasons for starting this thread?

@joya_aspera:  There is no ridiculous atmosphere. It is absolutely possible to have a good discussion here, as long as you don’t start one under false pretenses.

@joya_aspera:  No, it isn’t stated in the OP. The OP says that you just wanted to clear up misunderstandings that you kept seeing. So I’ll quote myself –

“It was said in the OP that you were trying to clear up a misunderstanding that you kept seeing. I have seen 1 person on the bee with a flawless diamond, and it was under a carat. I have seen maybe 3 fancies. Please point out where you see people talking about those types of stones not being rare and not just talking about jewelry grade diamonds in general. You know, the kind that most people in the world wear?

Can’t find it? Well now you see why you’re being met with so much resistance – the supposed reason for this thread does not exist. You started it for your own reasons, whatever those were.”

Interesting that the related threads section links to a thread discussing a documentary stating that “

“The most incredible thing is there are about6.3 BILLION carats of diamond on planet earth, and 20% to 50% of that is gem quality. “

Just thought that was…interesting.

Anyway, rarity is about comparison. I think that’s causing a problem here. As is the definition of “high quality”. If you mean “decent jeweler quality” then we’re talking not so rare by the very priciple that they are a commercially available item. If we’re talking high stats then yup, totally rare. What you compare it to still colours your view though. Compared to water Diamonds are super rare even the scratchy ones. Compared to a truly wonderful human being? Perhaps not so much…
