(Closed) It’s official. I’m definitely on the WB terrorist watch list.

I think the problem is that the rules about what is/isn’t acceptable are unclear. I have been part of the WB commiunity for over a year. I had an experience where a bee openly attacked me on multiple threads, and continued to bash my marriage in more general terms- months later, in an effort to bait me into fighting with her. Several bees PM’d me and were shocked that she was permitted to stay despite her behavior. For a long time she was allowed to continue threadjacking, making snarky remarks, and spewing her very clear agenda, while other bees were being flagged/warned for much, much less. Eventually, I realized that nothing was being done about it, so even though I was a regular poster, I stopped visiting the site, and would only return from time to time when I received notifications to my personal email when someone would PM me. That bee was eventually banned, though she appears to be back under a different alias.

The other problem is that what is/isn’t offensive appears to be subjective. There are instances where the mods intervene too much, and then instances where they don’t do enough. I appreciate the difficult position they are in, but there seems to be waaay more issues with this now than when I first joined. I was going to suggest more of a community self monitoring (such as Facebook’s “like” button- except instead of that, it would say “flag” or “report”- and if enough bees click on it- as something particularly egregious – then the mods remove it)- but as someone who’s not really a fan of censorship, I don’t know if that’s the answer, either. It’s a slippery slope for sure. I think most can agree that some people need to get a thicker skin and some people need to stop acting like bitches.

I understand that WB asks that posters avoid “snarkiness”, but it seems like that term has been VERY subjective lately. There is a difference between blunt honesty and being snarky…..

@UpstateCait: You’re not the only one who got a PM like that, Miss Tattoo just posted a thread about it. People amaze me with their need for drama. Who has time for that?

@UpstateCait: THAT is what moderation is for.

On the side of the moderators though I’ve been an admin on several large boards, and while there’s a fair amount of satisfaction that comes from running a large site where people come together and discuss freely, there’s also a LOT of headaches that come with it and from what I’ve seen Wedding Bee actually handles these all fairly well.

Once the site becomes so big that no one person can handle it all you have to resort to things like: “flagging” comments, and teams of moderators. And once you’ve done that QA becomes very difficult. Because although I may trust moderator A and moderator B, when it comes down to it we’re different people and if they are given autonomous power–meaning they don’t have to go through a committee for deleting or warning–they may act differently or have different levels of “snark” that they’re willing to tolerate.

So yeah sometimes things are going to be handled differently unfairly, whatever. For this many people though I think things are handled more evenly/on the side of niceness (where I prefer my sites anyway) than many places I’ve been.

@UpstateCait: This new account business is the WORST.  I feel like it’s 1 person that keeps doing it.  It’s totally out of control and I know the “new account” situation must be the most annoying babysitting that Mr. Bee has to attend to.

@UpstateCait: When you first started posting I honestly got a little irritated at you a few times but like another poster pointed out, that is just your personality and you are flat out honest. I like it now but I can see why some people may get their feelings hurt by it.

By The Way this is what I thought of when I opened this thread lol
