The summer before I started high school, my family moved into a house that my younger sister and I felt had bad vibes. Weird stuff happened regularly. I have so many stories, but this was my scariest night in the house:

I would stay up much later than everyone else in my family during my first summer there. My father yelled at me every day for leaving the fans and lights on when I finally went to bed. He was worried about the electric bill; I was worried because I usually remembered turning everything off each night.

One night, I was ready to go to bed, so I went to turn off the box fan in the living room. It turned back on as I walked away. I went over to turn it off again; same thing happened. Finally, I unplugged it, and that kept it off. I turned to leave the room, and a gargoyle figurine my father kept on the TV stand was sitting in the middle of the living room floor, facing me. I flipped off the lightswitch and noped out of there, practically running up the stairs. I collided with someone on the landing.

“Sorry,” I said, but no one answered. I realized I couldn’t feel anyone standing near me or hear any breathing, but the air was scorching and my arm was burning where I had hit whatever was on the landing. I rushed to my room at the end of the hallway and flipped on the light. There was nothing on the landing; we didn’t even have pictures hanging on the walls at the time.

I shut and locked my bedroom door and sat on the foot of my bed. My arm was still burning, so I lifted it up to the light. There was a thin, bloody scratch that started at my elbow, wraped around my forearm, and ended at my wrist.

I didn’t sleep that night.

When my parents saw the scratch the next morning, they said I must have hit it on the wall on my way up the stairs. But at least the light had been turned off.

happiekrappie :  Thank you so much. He’s the love of my life. We were married almost 24 years. He had a major midlife crisis and our communication was very broken.  Since we reconciled a year and a half ago ( got remarried on the 4th of July this year), I can honestly say we are happier than we have ever been.

Idk what this was, but it freaked me out.  My mom’s office exits into mine and my parent’s bedroom.  One night while awake, I thought I heard my mom/dad walking through that room to exit through my room.  I look up and there is no one.  That freaked me out!  I heard footsteps and was expecting one of them to show up.  I even took my cat and placed him on the wood floor to see how that sounded, not even close!

steny03 :  You’re in a very remote area. That pass sounds like a place to dump a body. Maybe the spirit(s) are trying to get your attention/lead you to their grave for closure.  Have you tried looking up missing people from the area with those descriptions?

A teacher who was at our school for a talk told us this story. No personal experiences!

As a little girl, she and her family moved into a new house that was said to be haunted by a woman who had it built with her husband. She had shot herself dead after shooting her husband in that house following his affair.

For the first few days, our teacher didn’t see anything. But one night she woke up and saw a red haired woman sitting by her bedside and smiling down at her. My teacher put the duvet over her head and closed her eyes and didn’t look again because she was terrified.

Next day she woke up believing she must have dreamt it. But later in the morning she found a stand of red hair in her bedroom, and nobody in the house had red hair.

Our teacher was shivering while she recounted this story and said her hands go ice cold every time she talks about it.

My little sister and I used to share a room, and I slept on the top bunk. I think I was maybe 10 – 12 years old. I generally sleep on my stomach, and one night I woke up to hear breathing right behind my head. I was absolutely frozen in terror. Our bedroom had slanted ceilings so there wasn’t a ton of room above my bunk bed, and I slept with my head at the end of the bed that didn’t have the ladder. I meekly called out my sisters name, but there was no response. I still remember it vividly and was convinced for the longest time that a ghost/demon was breathing on me, but now I’m starting to think it was sleep paralysis.

We had a scrap metal dump not far from where I grew up, that I used to walk past often. One day there was a little green car dumped there. Nothing unusual about it, cars would be dumped there several times per week. But my blood just turned cold when I saw this car, and I instantly just thought of death. I knew I needed to check the car, but try as I might I simply couldn’t make myself get closer to it.  My instincts just wouldn’t let me near it (which has been the first and only time I’ve ever had that fear or felt like that).

I called a friend who came and checked the car out, and made sure the boot was empty.

Later that day I saw that car on the news, as a guy had gassed himself in it that morning. 😐

Okay, I’ve got one. My family lived in a split-level house until I was 7 years old.  When you open the front door there was a small foyer with a two story-height ceiling and about 10-15 steps to the main level (living room, kitchen, hall bath, three bedrooms).  The hallway and living room were at the top of the stairs and had railings so that you could see the entire staircase and foyer.  My bedroom was at the end of the (short) hallway such that if you took a few steps outside my bedroom door you could see the foyer/stairs.

Every night I had the exact same dream. In the dream a thin dark shadowy man (too fuzzy to see any facial features) would slowly open the front door (so the hinges wouldn’t squeak), and start slowly walking up the stairs, slightly hunched over and stepping so lightly that his footsteps were silent.  When he got to the top of the steps and started sneaking toward my room I would usually wake up. Occasionally he would get to the doorway of my room before I woke up. When I woke up I would be terrified and once my eyes adjusted to the darkness I would look around the room making sure no one was there. I would eventually gather up the courage to sprint out of my bedroom and across the hall to my parents’ room and tap on my mom’s shoulder.  I never told her what was wrong; I just asked her to take me back to bed. Once she had tucked me back into bed, I would fall asleep and wouldn’t have any dreams the rest of the night.

In the spring of second grade, my family moved into a new house in a new part of town.  My mom says that the first night we slept in the new house was the first time I had slept through the night in my entire life. It was also when I stopped having the dream abou the shadow man.  I’ve never had that dream again and it still freaks me out when I think about it.
