By the time we get married we will have been engaged 19 months. I started planning like almost immediately. Nothing serious, just looking and getting ideas of what I like and do not like. We booked our  first vendor, our photographer, a little over a year old. Because we were getting married during peak season, I knew getting a photographer and a venue early was essential. We booked the venue 12 1/2 months out or so. I feel like there are pops of planning for me. I won’t do much for a few weeks and then I pick an aspect of the wedding and plan away until I have reached my goal. Then I take a break for a bit. It is a ride not a race. Just take your time and enjoy the process.

I started planning as soon as I got the ring.

@LittleMsPumpernickel:  my engagement is going to end up being right around 23 months… We relaxed for a few months, and then we picked our venue and wedding date, and booked our photographer. My mom and I went shopping a couple times so far, but just looking for ideas! I’ve been thinking about color schemes etc but I’m not planning on doing much more for a few months and then I’ll get serious about it! I have really liked being able to do a couple things at a time and getting my first choice of EVERYTHING. that’s been awesome so far. Congratulations btw!

I had a 20month engagement. I started planning pretty immediately but then took a huge break for a few months. I got my dress just over a year out from the wedding, I also did bridesmaid dresses at that time. We booked photographer at a year and a half. Florist at the year mark. Everything we could book early we did…allowed us to get some deposits done with…

    Hope that helps some!

@LittleMsPumpernickel:  Got the ring on 12/13/2012, the day I joined the bee! We’ll have been engaged for 22 months on our wedding date! I had a ring previous to getting my actual ring, but i felt sooo much more real when I had MY ring!

i’m getting married december this year. i booked my venue in october and started to book the other important stuff the last month or so, but i’m not totally done yet.

i don’t know what you plan for decorations but watch for christmas sales! i’m using silver ornaments as scatter on the table and i went to big lots a few weeks ago and bought a whole cart full (literally full to the top) of silver ornaments for 12 dollars! i also bought up the string lights that were left over for more than half off.

here’s my inspiration picture because people look at me like i’m crazy when i try to explain this 🙂

Congratulations!!! Start planning right away, weddings take a while to plan, especially if you want a popular venue! I got engaged January last year and won’t be getting married until July 2015, and have picked out the venues and the guest list, just haven’t booked anything yet!

I started just poking around looking at things when we got engaged (Feb 2012), started looking semi-seriously in about May 2012, then in September 2012, fiance and I just said “Screw it” and set a date for April 2013. So technically we’re planning the wedding in about 6 months. We’re both terrible procrastinators, so if we didn’t set a date relatively close, we would never have gotten married.

    We’re doing some things now.

I’ve gotten all of the smaller stuff already [plates, bowls, cutlery, cups, ect]. We have chosen a venue and will be booking it in the next few weeks.

We’ve pretty much picked out everything for our wedding, just need to finish purchasing/paying for everything.
