So i currently have the IUD (Paragard non-hormonal) but do to my cycle schedule. My dr is putting me on the pill as well to avoid having my period during my wedding/honeymoon. So my question is, if Fi and i are going to start trying to conceive september/october time… When should i have the IUD removed? Since i will be on the pill anyways. My dr has recommended 3 packs of pills that i will take continuously with no sugar pills (so i won’t have my period for the next 3+ months). Do i have the IUD removed before, to let my body get used to not having the IUD? Or do i do it after and just stay double protected? Any suggestions?

The birth control pills are a separate issue, but technically, once the IUD is removed, you can get pregnant right away.

once you stop taking the pill, it can take up to one year for your body to ovulate again, once having the iud removed, studies show that your body is back to normal right away, like you were never on any kind of birth control. i have the mirena, and am refusing bc pills because the effects can last for so long! so it’s something you have to weight the benefits, period potentially on your honeymoon(which could happen even on the pill, because stress is stronger than the pill) or not being able to conceive when planned(which can also happen anyways because some people have a hard time conceiving), so it’s really something to discuss with your doctor…
