Darling Husband was there for all of our infertility stuff, including the 2 IUI’s. If it makes you comfortable, the actual IUI procedure is like a pap test and takes 10 minutes as long as they can place the catheter correctly. I know emotional wise it’s good to have them there, but other than that it’s quick and your on your way.

We only had the one IUI in May and my husband was there for the whole thing and he will be at our IVF retrieval and transfer in the next month or two. MissGreen is right in that the IUI is very quick and not too painful if at all painful. So physically, you should be just fine! I personally wouldn’t want to go through an IUI or IVF without my husband by my side, but if that is the only way, then I guess you’ll have to make do. I’m sorry he won’t be there, though. 🙁

I totally joked about it on my blog that I would call him and thank him after.  In a way it’s weird that he wasn’t there (for IUI…I would want him there for IVF) but I also would have felt more uncomfortable if he was.  We are close, but that’s awkward!  I think an ultrasound, even if it’s internal, is much less weird to having someone there watching.

I agree with MGG…It wasn’t necessary for the iUI, it would have been awkward for him.  When I was getting my first u/s at the RE, they ushered him into the room with me after meeting with both of us, and once he figured out what was about to happen he had to “use the restroom” and he made a swift exit to the lobby.  I think when there is a baby in there, it won’t be awkward at all.  But for now, it’s just some man all up in his wife’s vagina.  That’s pretty weird to him.  He doesn’t want to watch someone else “down there.”

And the IUI is so simple and “clinical.”  There’s nothing to it. You have to lay there for 10 minutes afterwards, so it’s a total of like 13 minutes!

I haven’t had IUI or IVF, but I told my Darling Husband not to come when I got a transvaginal ultrasound to measure my cervical length.  I just felt weird having him be there when someone else was spelunking around inside of me.
