Why not give her that name but call her by a nickname like Em or Emie or Emily?
I don’t see any problem with it! Its not identical they just sound similar. Besides, people would call her by her nickname but her proper name would be Emelia. I think its really cute! Besides, guys name their sons after them so why not!

I think its so pretty, but I do think it might be a little too close. I love the name Alexander, but my name is Alexandra so we’ll never use it. But if you really love it maybe you should just go for it anyway! What does your DH think about it?

@nearlymarriedlass: My grandparents named their kids after themselves and other family members: mom is named for her mom, her sister was after their grandmas, brother is for their dad, and the youngest was named for one of his maternal uncles.
I see no issue with the names being similar. I actually really love the name Emilia, more so now that the girl playing Daeny on Game of Thrones is named that (she has freaking dragons; whats NOT to love?!)

Or Emileigha or as PP stated Emiliana would be great substitutes if you like them.

- Wedding: April 2013 - A court...
I wouldn’t care. One of my cousins gave her daughter her name but w different spelling. She has a pretty name though. What about Emily? It’s a bit more different :p
& my moms name is andrea and she named my little brother Andrew- no ones commented on that.

- Wedding: May 2013 - Pavilion overlooking golf course scenery, reception at banquet hall
I can just see so many phone conversations starting… “Hello may I speak to A/Emelia?” “With an A or E?”
I wouldn’t do it. Middle name would be fine!

@nearlymarriedlass: My grandpa, dad, and brother have the same name. Not a huge deal. We called grandpa by his first plus middle initial, dad by his middle, brother by his first. I have two cousins with the same name that we call by their middle names.
On my mom’s side, my mom’s brother and grandpa had the same name with two slightly different nicknames.

@nearlymarriedlass: They are very similar. But if you and your partner love it then go for it. Who cares what anyone else thinks 🙂 it’s your baby, not theirs. I’ve known a girl called Phylleace who named her daughter Phyleesa. Btw Emilia is gorgeous!! One of my top girls names.

@nearlymarriedlass: I totally feel your pain. My name is Jenna (full name not Jennifer) and I love the name Genevieve. It is spelled totally different, but my name is part of that name. Luckily I like a bunch of other girl names, so it isn’t a huge loss. I’m going to try and talk my sister into using it…
I have a co worker whose son named his daughter Julia, but the son’s sister is named Julie. I thought that was a little too close for my liking. My cousin named her daughter after her sister. My grandma hates it. To be honest, it is confusing sometimes.

thanks for the input guys! after reading all the comments i think ill let this one lie 🙁 its just a bit too similar and i dont want to worry about confusion…but damn i wish my mother named me either Emilia or something totally different so i could use it 😉

Bothmy Dad and my DH have the same name as their father. For my Dad it was Big Jack and Little Jack, but my DH hates it and goes by his middle name, I think you should go for something different.
