With that list of all those foods, it is honestly amazing that anyone has ever given birth to a normal baby in the years past when we couldn’t look up what we weren’t allowed to eat. I mean seriously, lots of women used to smoke constantly while pregnant and still gave birth to healthy children (not advocating at all), it’s just surprising that the list keeps growing and growing.

What really bothers me is when I read things about how I should be careful when using certain hand soaps, shampoos, conditioners, lotions, face wash.. ect. Jeez! I can’t imagine what these lists will be like in 5, 10 years!

@Sunshine09:  It’s awful how many things we’re not supposed to eat! I’ve been in tears after realising I ate some soft cheese and chive dip that I wasn’t supposed to 🙁

@vorpalette:  It does sound over the top. But i think it’s best to be safe. I won’t eat things I’m not supposed to while pregnant as I care more about my baby’s slim chance of getting sick than I do about my cravings.

@MrsSmokey:  Like was posted above: With that list of all those foods, it is honestly amazing that anyone has ever given birth to a normal baby in the years past when we couldn’t look up what we weren’t allowed to eat.

Which means that I will be drinking my morning coffee and eating soft serve ice cream and fresh fruits and vegetables and peanut butter and almond milk and I bet you that my future kids will be just fine. You’re more likely to get food poisoning from undercooked chicken.

Previous generations didnt have all these rules and babies came out just fine.

@Sunshine09:  I think you might really appreciate this article on putting all of those prohibitions and restrictions into statistical perspective. Wink

I haven’t followed a single one of those absurd rules and I’m not worried in the least: Hello brie, blue cheese, steak tartar, sashimi, cold cuts, etc etc etc!

It honestly makes me want to scream how poorly informed most of them are anyway. Just don’t get food poisoning and your baby will be fine!

@Sunshine09:  I personally think its ridiculous the rules placed on pregnancy when it comes to Food. The obvious ones like drinking alc and smoking are big nos but the rest I think in small moderation would be fine. No fruit juice??? Why?! No ice cream?! Why?!? I haven’t had a baby so I probably don’t get it…..sigh . Basically I don’t blame ya for eating that food!

@MrsRugbee:  I totally agree. Our mothers didn’t worry about this crap when they had us and were fine!!! Maybe because people are so uptight about what they eat these days is the reason kids now have way more allergies like peanuts and adversions to so many foods. I totes agree with u

@vorpalette:  Hear hear! Heck, my mother did drugs when pregnant with me and god knows what else and I am a-okay (not saying that is the case for everyone), so I’m certain my veggie sushi, soft serve ice cream etc won’t cause my baby to have 2 heads.

When I was pregnant with our DD in 03/04, I didn’t pay any attention to the ‘what not to eat/drink/do’ rules, really. I cut back on smoking, I stopped drinking and the big things, but I ate what I wanted, damnit (heavy on yogurt, and apples… and I craved fish sticks like no other).
