Oh, I am in this boat. I haven’t paid for anything or contacted any vendors but I have pictures saved on my computer, vendors I might want to use, a tentative guest-list… Sometimes I feel like I’m totally insane and ridiculous. Other times I feel like “who cares if I know I’m going to be engaged soon?” My boyfriend knows I’m doing all this and doesn’t mind. Our timeline is that I’ll be engaged within the next 2 months- we’re very open about all of the engagement/wedding stuff.

I am hoping that because I am so prepared that I will be able to have a shorter engagement (I was originally thinking we’d get married in 2012, but why wait if I’m prepared?). I also feel like this time is giving me more opportunity to get ideas. I don’t have to make any hasty decisions and if I still like stuff after a year, then it’s probably a sure bet.

I totally did this!! I’m engaged now, but for about a year prior I was silently making notes and saving ideas that I wanted to use for my wedding. As long as you don’t go and book anything before being engaged I think you’re fine. I liked to call myself prepared rather than obsessed and is a big reason why I joined this board before I was engaged! Wink Now, we still have a 2 year engagement ahead of us but I already have a list of venues, inspiration boards, etc. to work off of. It’s going to make for one easy engagement period and I do not regret my pre-planning at all.

Welcome to the bee, good luck and happy planning!!

Welcome!!

You’ll have plenty to do because you’ll probably find even more things you like!LOL

I have a lot sorta planned. The venue anyway. I just mostly have ideas on the things I’m allowed to do on my own with none of his input-invites, Save-The-Date Cards, Out of Town bags- but the stuff with his input has to wait-colors and where at the venue.

All of this is in a binder..yes, he knows the binder and likes looking in it.LOL

Yes, I have started doing some pre-planning. I have pictures, notes, books, the whole nine yards and I don’t have a ring yet. I think it’s good to have all these ideas ahead of time because I want the actual engagement to have very little stress. My problem is that I want to start calling venues and inquiring about prices and stuff like that. My rule to myself is that I HAVE to have a ring before I can do that.

I do the same thing. I have a lot of ideas and even a rough budget worked out. BF knows all this and seems more than happy for me to do the research before we get engaged and start planning properly. I wouldn’t book anything or buy anything for the wedding until he proposes though.

Did it and it sure made my wedding planning quite easy imho.  I had the basic feel and ideas about colors and style of our day taken care of.

I didn’t have a style book though, just made a few inspiration boards I kept online on my computer.

But knowing what I liked, he liked, and how we wanted to do things made everything easier!

I have a folder on the computer with wedding dresses that I like 🙂 To be fair, I was helping a Girlfriend plan her wedding….and saved stuff I liked. Not insane, right?

Oh. But I also made a tentative guest list. And thought about who would be my bridesmaids. Ok, maybe not totally insane but feels insane right now becuase I’m f*%ing SINGLE now!!!! Tecent break-up, still hanging around the waiting board. The aforementioned “planning” was when I thought getting married was in the cards for me and the ex-BF

OH, I have SO much planned.  Colors. bridesmaids, their dresses, favors, invites, save the dates, possible venues, ideas for the kids room, memorial candles to honor his parents,  photographer, bands…

I’ve been a wedding planner for numerous friends over the past few years, so I have a super clear idea of what I like.  And the SO and I have talked about getting married in CT even though we live in Los Angeles. (We have family in NJ, NY, and CT, so it seems like a good location.) So, I’ve been internet sluthing.

And, we talk about “our wedding” all the time. SO has A LOT of wedding ideas, and he tells me them all the time.  He hasn’t seen the binder, though.  No money spent yet.  I’m waiting for the ring for that. 🙂

I preplanned quite a bit, and I REALLY regretted it. I fell in love with ideas and colors – and my FH wasn’t. It’s his wedding too, and I had to acknowledge that I never asked his opinion on any of the things previously. Our entire wedding is completely different from what I would have done if I had planned it all by myself, but it’s much more “us” rather than just “me”. Don’t dig yourself in too deep, or you’ll find yourself having to come to terms with a wedding that’s different than everything you previously fell in love with. I love my wedding now, but it took me quite awhile to get to the point.

I have thoughts of what I would like but I don’t want to get too far into it because I need his input too! He is traditional, I am not so if I plan too much I will have my heart set on this crazy indie wedding that he won’t be into as much!

So for now, I know my colours (its his favourite colour too so I am pretty sure that will be Ok) and I save any pictures I come across that I think may be useful.
