Hi all! Candy08 recommended this thread to me. I started stims on Friday 5/4. Any stim buddies?

ROLL CALL:

Age/SO’s Age: 37/42

TTC History (length of time TTC, previous IUI/IVF attempts, etc.): We’ve been trying for about a year and a half and have had two MMCs, both of which took a long time to resolve. With the second one, I ended up having two surgeries because I had retained tissue. We have never done any fertility treatments as I seem to get pregnant, but I think I must have low egg quality. I also had a chemical back in September.

Known Issues: I think I have low egg quality, as I mentioned above. I also have hypothyroid and maybe some mild PCOS going on because I had a very high AFC.

IVF plan (vitamins/supplements, short or long cycle, genetic testing, fresh/frozen transfer, # embryos to transfer, etc.): I took BCP for ten days and then started stims on Friday (Gonal-F 225). I will add in cetrotide when they tell me to, and I will be doing a Lupron trigger in hopes of preventing OHSS. We are definitely doing PGS testing as that is the main reason we are doing IVF in the first place. We are doing a frozen transfer and will be transferring one (assuming we have one to transfer — fingers crossed!). In between retrieval and transfer, I have to do a SIS to make sure I’ve healed from my surgeries.

Vitamins: I take gummy prenatal plus a separate folate pill, a separate vitamin D, ubiquinol, and baby aspirin….

IVF Start Date: In progress — started stims Friday, May 4.

I had my first monitoring appointment today and they said they saw a lot of small follicles (more than ten on each side) but none that were measurable (all were less than 10mm). From what I’ve read, that is normal on the first monitoring appointment. I hope a bunch start growing soon! How’s everyone else doing??

apostrophecatastrophe :   I should start Stims tomorrow if all goes well. This is my 3rd cycle. Not sure if this thread is still active but i’d love to revive it.

ROLL CALL:

Age/SO’s Age: 33

TTC History (length of time TTC, previous IUI/IVF attempts, etc.): 2 years TTC. Began seeing an RE after a year due to age (33) and other health issues – We did 4 IUIs and 2 IVF Cycles (all BFN -never as much as a hint of a second line. Going on 3rd IVF cycle.

Known Issues: Low AMH/high FSH/ Diminshed Ovarian Reserve

IVF plan (vitamins/supplements, short or long cycle, genetic testing, fresh/frozen transfer, # embryos to transfer, etc.): Estrogen priming protocol and adding in implantation protocol this cycle. My dr. also changed up my doses. I’ve previously done 450 follistim/150 menopur, this time I will be on 300IUs of each, add in cetrotide, and then begin prednisone and lovenox (implantation protocol). I am hoping for a freeze all this cycle and doing FET next month as last 2 fresh transfers failed, but it depends on the quality of embryos on day 5.

IVF Start Date: In progress — my pre-IVF appointment will be tomorrow – should begin stims tomorrow night

littleanchor :  I’m sorry to hear of your long journey thus far. I hope that the new protocol yields better results. How many eggs did you retrieve your first two cycles?

apostrophecatastrophe :  Not enough! Lol. We retrieved 7 the first cycle and transferred 2 not great quality/fragmented morulas on day 5. Last cycle, we retrieved 9 but only 8 mature. We transferred one good quality blastocyst on day 5 but none to freeze and still BFN

apostrophecatastrophe :  Yes! I did microdose flare protocol first round and it was a disaster. I did the same protocol the 2nd round as I am doing this time with a few tweaks but hoping for results similar to last round. We’ll see. I would love to be able to have an extra embryo or two to freeze but that seems so impossible based on results the first two rounds :-/  Have you requested a RPL panel given your 2 losses? It might make sense if you are not successful this round (though I hope you are!) Good luck to you.

littleanchor :  That would be great if you could get one or two embryos to freeze. I have had a bunch of blood tests to check for blood clotting disorders, but I don’t think I’ve had a full RPL panel. They have to keep a close eye on my thyroid levels as I get closer to transfer and they will increase my thyroid medication right away. I assume my first MMC was a chromosomal abnormality because it was a blighted ovum. With the second one, they think that it implanted in the wrong place and couldn’t get proper blood flow. They found this during the hysteroscopy i had to remove retained tissue. Anyhoo, i hope you get to start stims tomorrow!

I’m in a waiting period before starting IVF #2 (our first cycle ended in a chemical pregnancy with nothing left to freeze) but I can definitely cheer you guys on while we wait!

apostrophecatastrophe :  Wishing you all the best for your first cycle!  Having lots of follicles to start is a great sign.  Hope you see some nice progress at your next appointment.

littleanchor :  Fingers crossed you get the go ahead to start tomorrow!  I hope the tweaks to your protocol are exactly what you need.  My RE has suggested the possibility of trying the microdose flare protocol next time and that makes me nervous.  It seems like it falls into one of two extremes with people who have tried it – it either works great or it’s a disaster!  The option is try the microdose flare or hope that last cycle was a fluke and try the antagonist again but that obviously makes me nervous because it didn’t work so well last time.  Basically, I’m just totally nervous to cycle again, lol.

mkat37 :  Hey again over here! I wouldn’t worry so much about MDL. I know a lot of people that it has worked for. Honestly, I think the bigger issue for me during first cycle was priming with birth control pills which tends to oversuppress those of us with DOR. I am doing estrogen priming this round again. How did you prime last cycle?  It’s definitely nerve wracking the 2nd time around – 3rd time around and i’m just over it! I want to be done with it all.

littleanchor :  We did BCP priming last cycle.  I’ve done some reading on estrogen priming and I’ll definitely be asking about it at our next appointment!  Unfortunately, we have to travel for IVF so I like that my cycle can be manipulated with BCP to line up travel dates.  But if he thinks estrogen priming will work better for us, obviously I’ll try it!

mkat37 :  Thanks for asking! Candy08 messaged me to ask too. I feel so supported! 🙂 Anyway, I got off to a slow start with stims because they started me on a low dose of Gonal-F only. After 6 days, at my second monitoring, they only saw small follicles (less than 11 mm), so they added in Menopur last Thursday, and that helped kick-start things. I had monitoring this morning, and they saw 24 measurable follicles (!). They only measure them if they are above 11 mm. The biggest two were 18 mm but most of the other ones were in the 11-17 range, so I’m thinking I will do one more night of stim shots tonight and then trigger tomorrow, but that’s just an educated guess because they haven’t called me yet. Does that seem reasonable? They usually call around 3:30 pm. I’m feeling a bit bloated, and the Cetrotide causes my stomach to itch a bit right after I do that shot, but I can’t complain! I will be thrilled if I got 15-20 eggs as my RE predicted I would…

How are things with you?

apostrophecatastrophe :  Yay!  You’re getting so close!  And 24 follicles is awesome!  I’m sure you’ve heard from your clinic with instructions already but I seem to remember 18-20 being the sweet spot for triggering.

Not much happening over here.  Still waiting to start our cycle #2 in a few months.  I appreciate the break from meds and appointments but I’m also anxious to try again!  Our RE wanted us to try really hard naturally while we wait because he has seen some increase in fertility after a chemical pregnancy…almost like my body finally figured out how to be pregnant.  I had a textbook perfect cycle this month so I actually thought he was on to something, but a BFN this morning seems to suggest otherwise.

mkat37 :  Hey, thanks for asking!! Things are going ok! I am trying to take a more relaxed approach this round!  I am keeping busy instead of thinking about it all the time. I am on day 7 of stims. Not as many follicles as I’d like to see, but trying to remain optimistic. My nurse today thought I might trigger as early as Saturday which would be the quickest I’ve ever done my retrieval. Usuallly I stim for a full 2 weeks. It will be nice to not have to spend another few thousand dollars in meds on refills. How are you doing?

mkat37 :  Thanks! I went back again this morning and they said the largest follicle is 19 mm and now I have 28 measurable follicles! What?? Some of the eggs are bound to be immature or low quality, but 28 follicles is crazy. I’m definitely feeling bloated today so I’m really hoping they tell me I can trigger tonight and have my retrieval on Friday. They usually don’t call me until 4 pm, and it’s only 11 am. I’m so impatient already. 🙂

Sorry to hear about your BFN! I hope you have better luck next month and can enjoy some time off without shots and early-morning appointments, etc.
