Bad news, Bees. Heard back from the doctor and none of our eggs fertilized. We’re crushed. I know it’s ridiculous to say we weren’t expecting that kind of outcome, but when we put so much time, money, and tears into it, you believe it’s going to work. I wish you all the best of luck in your journeys. I’m not sure if we’re going to try again, the endometriosis just seems to have fucked me up so bad… Sigh. I’m just feeling low. Like I said, good luck y’all!

zebra10 :  Congrats! I saw on another post that you are concerned about the doubling.  I agree with everyone else on that board that you are doing great!

And I agree with joining the baby month FB page.  It starts out a bit slow, but now some of the women I would call genuinely close friends.  They also have been incredibly supportive of me with all the stuff with my husband, including sending care packages and reaching out to my family to see what I need.  There have been a number of meet ups, and we are just July 2017!

nautilusl2 :  I just wanted to say how incredably sorry I am to hear your news. My heart hurts for you and your husband.  Did the doc have any idea why they didnt grow? Did they give you guys any recommendations on what the next logical steps are? No matter what you decide please be good to yourself and take care. You deserve to do something that will make you happy and some pampering right now. Are you and your husband able to take a trip or just maybe get away for a long weekend to clear your minds? Again I am so sorry.

candy08 :  my doctor is in Cabo now,, enjoying vacation, so I actually haven’t talked to her about it at all. I’ve only been hearing from the embryologist. It’s been sad and frustrating. We don’t have any plans to get away, though I agree that we should take some time. To think, I was holding on to all my PTO for Dr appointments. As far as the embryologist says, the eggs just didn’t cleave like they were supposed to. They think it’s the eggs fault, not the sperm. I’m not sure what to do now.

nautilusl2 :  Oh okay.  I only asked because you said they didn’t fertilize.  ICSI is when they select a single sperm and insert it into the egg instead of letting the sperm do the work.  They do this to help with fertilization rates especially if sperm is abnormal in any way, but from what you said it sounds like they did fertilize and just didn’t grow so ICSI wouldn’t help that.  I am so sorry!   Echo what pp said about making sure to take care of yourself.  I cannot imagine how you are feeling.  I hope your doctor has answers for you when she gets back and can come up with a game plan.

houstonsweetcorn :  thank you so much!! I really need to join my group!!

Ha, yes I was quite worried about my doubling and test progress 🙂 took an FRER last night with the control line literally almost faded so I am going to stop those for good and wait for ultrasound now.

How is everyone else?

Hey ladies, it’s starting to look like we will be moving onto IVF. I have a consultation with my RE on the 21st. I really want to have a list of questions I should ask. Do you all have any you think I should ask?

Dr_dazzle :  Hi!  We made a list to ask before our first consultation.  I’ll share what we asked.  Not sure if all will be helpful for you, but this is what we asked.  FTR we are a same-sex couple so that is why all the questions about sperm.  But may be helpful for those who need to use a donor even if they are a straight couple.

General Questions

  1. What are your success rates?
  2. Will you need to do further testing to confirm PCOS?  If so, what?
  3. When would we start if we wanted to try to be pregnant in December or January?
  4. What is the typical protocol?  Are we able to choose what our treatment plan is or is there a set system (ie 3 IUIs then move on to IVF etc)?
  5. Genetic testing for me?
  6. Can we use the donor we have chosen?  When to buy sperm? How much?
  7. How flexible is scheduling?  Do we contact you directly if we have questions?
  8. If treatment is successful, when will I go back to my regular OB?
  9. Zika virus?  Will our trip delay treatment?
  10. What do I need to be doing now?  Prenatals? Supplements?
  11. CMV Status–If our donor is positive, what does that mean for us?

IVF Questions

  1. What are the steps?  Do you have a specific pharmacy where we can buy the meds?
  2. Will ICSI be performed?
  3. Do we get to choose the embryo that is transferred?
  4. Are we able to choose the number of embryos transferred?
  5. Do we get pictures of all our embryos or just those transferred?
  6. How often will we get updates on their progress?
  7. What will you do with the ones that stop growing and do not make it to freeze/transfer?
  8. How much does freezing cost?
  9. Is skipping pgd testing okay?
  10. Do you do day 5 transfer?
  11. Acupuncture?
  12. Assisted hatching done?
  13. Storage costs for frozen embryos?
  14. Am I at risk for OHSS?

Dr_dazzle :  You are so welcome!  Keep us updated and good luck.  I am still in IVF limbo so I’ll be here for a while.  We had to do a freeze all cycle because of my PCOS (my estrogen was crazy high during stims making my lining not ideal/putting me at risk for OHSS).  We did this in July and all our embryos (we have 7) were frozen by August 5th.  We are going to Punta Cana in November which is why we are waiting to transfer and to recoup some finances from the retrieval haha.  We will be starting our FET process once my period comes in December!

ROLL CALL:

Age/SO’s Age: 29 (about to be 30) / 30 (about to be 31)

TTC History (length of time TTC, previous IUI/IVF attempts, etc.): Over a year trying. Had an unexpected (we were not trying) MC about a year before we started trying, but haven’t been able to get pregnant since. Since getting help, we have had one cancelled, and two failed IUIs.

Known Issues: Diagnosed with unexplained infertility leaning toward male factor. I have some hormone issues but they have been fixed with supplements from the doctor. DH has pretty several morphology and motility issues, plus borderline low sperm count.

IVF plan (vitamins/supplements, short or long cycle, genetic testing, fresh/frozen transfer, # embryos to transfer, etc.): Prenatals. Birth control, Lupron, and starting Menopur and Follistim tonight. DH has been put on 200mg of Ibuprofen. No PGS testing. Doctor is looking to do a fresh, 1 embryo transfer this first time around, but that may change. Currently my egg retrieval is looking like it will be around October 3rd with the fresh transfer being about a week after that.

IVF Start Date: Started birth control in September.

For bees experienced with IVF – Any advice for first-timers?: No experience! I have no idea what I’m doing!
