I know ivory dress/ white shirt debate has been discussed extensively here, but I’m trying to find some pictures. My dress is Ivory – it isn’t dark, but it definitely isn’t very light either. By looking at it, you can tell its ivory. Fiance has been dreaming his whole life (apparently) that he wants to wear a white shirt, with a white tie/vest with his black tux. When we went to Men’s Wearhouse to select the wedding party tuxes, he was really disappointed when he found out that white would make my ivory dress look dirty.
Does anyone have any pictures of ivory dresses with white on white tuxes? We both didn’t like the ivory color that men’e wearhouse had at all. I’m going back and forth between just letting him get the white on white since my dress is clearly not white and telling him to wear a white shirt with a light grey tie/ vest.
Please help!
For reference, my dress is a Kenneth Pool, Rosalind, which is made of the Kenneth Pool Duchess Satin in Ivory, if that helps.

I dont have a picture, we went the way of doing an ivory shirt and vest for DH and ivory dress for me. The white didnt necessarily make the dress look dirty but the white did stand out alot more. Do you have a Friar Tux near you? Their ivory is not a dark ivory, its almost a soft white that your Fiance might like.

We actually do, but we have to use Men’s Wearhouse. Fiance is renting all of the tuxes for himself, his 7 groomsmen and our dad’s and covering the expense, but is planning to run it through his company. His company has a large wardrobe budget for the guys so that they always look great in front of their clients, but only can use Men’s Wearhouse, which is why we are stuck with them.
Thank you for the suggestion though! I really wish we could have gone that route.

Is he opposed to wearing a white shirt with an ivory vest? We went to MW as well and they told us that white would make my ivory dress look dirty. Then we went to a local place for tux rentals and the seamstress there showed us an ivory vest on a white shirt and it looked really nice (the ivory vest gave his outfit more dimension in my opinion).

I am having the same issue. My dress is Ivory and I want my Fiance in Ivory but when I went into Mens warehouse and discovered the Ivory shirt was yellowish…I freaked! I dont want the guys having to wear Ivory shirts with the black vests and tie.
I have decided to put Fiance in white shirt, Ivory Vest and tie and the groomsman in White shirt, Black Vests, and tie.
This way everything will mesh. I dont think it will make our dress look dirty.

I mentioned the white shirt/ ivory vest idea to Fiance at the store, but he didn’t take kindly to it. He said (imagine a mad 4 year old) that the white shirt and ivory tie/vest combo looked “awful” and that he can’t believe he can’t wear white. Now that some time has passed, this may go over better.
It’s funny since Fiance has been so laid back through this whole wedding process and has NEVER been into clothes – he has me shop for him and pick out what to wear when we go out, so him getting so upset over this was pretty surprising.
In all the wedding planning, this has been the ONE thing that he really wants. If the pictures don’t turn out bad, I would be more than happy to let him wear the white on white.
Do either of you have a picture of your Fiance in the white shirt/ ivory vest combo? I think if I could show him this, it would really help. When we were at the store, he wasn’t really in the state to listen rationally to any other options.

I dont think itll make your dress look dirty. I had an ivory dress, and my hisband wore an ivory vest and ivory tie over a white shirt – THAT didnt even look dirty. I have photos if you want to see them, but I dont think ANYONE would think your dress was dirty..

When I was thinking about purchasing an ivory dress, we planned to have him in a white shirt with an ivory tie and vest. It is what the woman at the salon suggested and we thought it looked very nice. It also keeps you from having to have every white thing be ivory, since you really incorporated both colors.

You can look at some of my recap pictures. I think that Men’s Warehouse is just trained to say that line. We went with the ivory shirt and vest since my dress was ivory and I think they were too dark for my dress. Also, the fit of their ivory shirts was really wide and the fabric was not as nice. In retrospect, I think we should have gone with the white.

@Kelly – Thanks again for sending these pictures! I sent them on to my Fiance. I think that the ivory looks great on the white and that’s also great they came from Men’s Wearhouse!

We’re using Men’s Wearhouse as well, and the rep we dealt with was upfront about their ivory being yellowish. She recommended we actually look elsewhere for the tie and shirt, which we did. We’re using the ivory MW vest, but we found a beautiful ivory tie and shirt at Dillards. The shirt is Calvin Klein and the tie is Murano – the catch is that both were labeled as white, but we compared them to other bright white shirts/ties, and they’re definitely an ivory color. Apparently, this is pretty common, so don’t just trust the label colors.

I wore an ivory dress and DH wore a white shirt with an ivory tie and black vest. It actually looked really nice! I can’t post a picture since I’m at work, but I can post one when I get home if you want!

I would love to see any pictures with ladies wearing ivory and men in white dress shirts. My honey and I went to Men’s Warehouse last night and they insisted that he be in ivory (because I am), but their ‘ivory’ is more like YELLOW. It’s awful! I know in the long run, it’s not a huge deal, but I really don’t like it. Also, they don’t have the option to tie their own tie. One of the reasons I’m marrying him is because of his ability to tie a beautiful Windsor knot (haha). He looks incredibly handsome in a tie and I’ve always envisioned him with a Windsor knot on our wedding day, and now I’m so disappointed that it’s not an option.
