- Wedding: November 2013
My sister (MOH) and I spent nearly a whole day trying on bridesmaid dresses (there’s only her and a BM, who are of course vastly different body types). We found one that flatters both and got the thumbs up from both, and has a tulle and chiffon flower detail that ties nicely into my dress without being twinsies; mine is the Enzoani Farlow, which asymmetrically opens up at the bottom to abstract rosettes in a chaos of tulle (to put it poetically). Of course, with that dress, the only really feasible color is ivory (it’s the Jim Hjelm Occasions 5180). My wedding planner says ivory would be great (it was her suggestion, I was going to go eggplant but I have come around to her point), especially since I don’t have a wedding color, per se, it’s more about texture. Here it is in plum:
I think ivory could be either awesome or terrible, and I can’t decide which! My dress is technically ivory, but it’s more like not-Arctic white, and the ivory of the BM dresses is a little more yellow-ish, like traditional ivory you see on sweaters and whatnot.
I’ve been looking for substitutes and nothing has grabbed me, but my sister found a somewhat-replica through JJ’s House. I would probably do champagne color, because I still want it neutral. The problem is that there is no tulle backing of the detail (alterable?), the neckline is more straight, and it’s more of a ruffle than a flower and it overwhelms a bit more. Also reviews of the quality online are mixed.
To make matters more complicated, I asked my photographer at my engagement session yesterday, and her vote is ivory. She thinks champagne might be too nude on one or both of the girls (one is super pale, like me, the other is more tan but not TAN tan, like sunkissed-esque). I haven’t seen the champagne in person, so I’d also have to order a swatch.
What do you think bees? Do I pull the trigger on ivory, risk it with the champagne from China, or do something else? I feel like I’ve combed through nearly every bridesmaid dress site over and over again, and nothing is as good (I either want asymmetrical draping or a non-cute/”chaotic” side flower, and those are hard to find in floor length), and I’m worried I don’t have time to be trying both if JJ’s fails…but maybe I do? Wedding is in November.
Ugh, thanks bees!! I think if my FI has to opine on “ivory vs taupe (my original color choice)” again, he’s going to explode. 😉
