A men’s style question for you regarding our 8pm candlelight wedding in July. I’m wearing an ivory dress with goldish lace, and my maid of honor (only attendant) will wear an elegant black dress to match the groom’s and best man’s black tuxes. Father of the bride and usher– my brother– also will wear black tuxes. Dandy! Now, a tie question.
I’d like my groom to stand out among the four tuxes. All will wear ivory shirts to complement the warmer, candlelight tones of the event. All will wear black vests and black bow ties. But I propose that the groom wear an ivory bowtie with his black vest. Is this crazy? The tux place actually had an ivory windsor tie paired with a black vest on a mannequin last time I stopped by, so this made me think I wasn’t totally nuts. Still, you just don’t see it. Anyway, my thing is that they’ll all have their coats off after the ceremony in the middle of summer, and I think an ivory tie/vest/shirt on the groom would look kind of goofy or at least washed out, or perhaps like his top half was painted ivory and his bottom half painted black. 🙂
