I’m not sure about Melissa Sweet in particular, but I know that generally ivory is MUCH more flattering on all skin types than white. I think that you made a great decision and I don’t think that the ivory will wash you out at all. No one will be able to tell if it is white, ivory, diamond white, etc so I wouldn’t worry about it at all. It will be very flattering on you!

I’m going to have to agree.  Ivory is more flattering to a wider range of skin tones.  I think you made a good choice.

I went Ivory mostly because I hate that stark printer paper white color you get in photographs.  It also didn’t wash me out in my current pale state, and hopefully will still look great when I start to tan a little 3 months out…

That is a good point about the photos.  You don’t want to white out in the sun.  Not sure if the ivory dress actually helps with that or not.

My dress is called Candle Light… a cousin of the Ivory family. The is no way I could do white… (you know what they say..”pale is the new tan!”) …at the same time I didn’t want the yellow(ish) tinge in some of the “Ivory” dresses I saw. Next to those Ivory gowns my Candle Light looks White… next to White Candle Light looks Ivory.

I prefer ivory. It’s much more universally flattering and has a softer look to it.

I think the interpretation of the color varies by designer. For some like Maggie Sottero and Pronovias, I found ivory to be more flattering that stark white. For Kenneth Pool and Lazaro, most of the store samples came in ivory and they were too yellowish for my skin, they did make me look washed-out. I ended up ordering mine in white – looking at the swatch, it’s really what would be called an off-white or diamond-white in other brands. I think that’s the case with most high end designers, their white is never stark white, but I may be wrong. If you tried on the ivory in the store and liked it, I’m sure you’ll be fine.

I tried white, I looked like a pale sheet.

I chose a light gold color after trying on ivory, just needed a little warmer tone to go with my skin.

Ivory is a fantastic choice tho, it can suit everyone!

I got ivory for my dress, it was much more flattering with my skin.  The stark white just looked… I don’t know, cold maybe?  Like it had a blueish/gray undertone, compared to the warmth of the ivory.  Plus if you’re getting pictures outside, the details of your dress might get lost in the sun with a stark white, while ivory will show them better.

But I’m biased because everything in our wedding will be ivory instead of white: Tablecloths, flowers, even the cake.  I’ve told my vendors that white is banned, lol!

Love the ivory! Have faith in the ivory! I was concerned that my dress wouldn’t look like a wedding dress because it incorporated champagne and taupe, but when I look at the pictures, I love the off-white shade. Very elegant.

I LOVE my ivory dress.  I have somewhat tan skin too and everything looks so much softer and prettier IMHO; I tried white on in the store and it looked ‘cheap’ – not that some dresses don’t look good in bright white, but all the ones I tried were DB.

Personally I think ivory is more flattering and forgiving than white. I’m wearing ivory (it’s marked as light gold/champagne/ivory) and I LOVE that it isn’t white. :o) Hope that helps
