@kariface:

My bridesmaids are in Jcrew arabella in poppy red but they all tried on the various colors incl blue/yellow/coral and truth be told these colors photograph very differently on people with different skin tones, etc…

Have them try on the dresses in all the colors and then take a photo of each and email it to you so you can see, that is what we did. Then everyone can see how it looks on film in order to determine if they are washed out or not.

I haven’t seen this color in person, but it’s pretty saturated. I’m surprised they think they’ll look washed out.

I would think that something like the J.Crew dusty shale color would be MUCH harder to pull off by pale bridesmaids, and that seems to be a popular choice regardless.

I think its a great color and dont see how it would wash someone out. Its not a nude tone or anything.

I’m curious how the matisse blue in the chiffon looks compared to the taffeta. The taffeta seems to have a bit of a teal tint to it, that doesnt seem to be in the chiffon pictures online?  what does it actually look like in person?

What? Washed out? They’re crazy. I’m super pale and naturally blond and I sometimes feel that way about light colours like soft pinks/blues/creams. But this is the exact colour that looks great on me!

I’m fair skinned (dark blonde hair, blue eyes), and I look AWFUL in that shade of blue. Normally I LOVE blue, but that particular shade washes me out and just makes me look icky. That being said, I’d gladly wear a dress that washes me out if it’d make my BFF happy :). One of my BMs says she looks awful in emerald green, but my girls are wearing emerald green. That particular Bridesmaid or Best Man is crazy, though, because she has gorgeous dark brown hair and green eyes – she’s gonna look hot!

I have very pale ivory skin and have very light brown hair naturally (I color it red) and that shade of blue looks amazing on my skin tone. Maybe they just need to give it a try!

Is it possible they are using it as an excuse? Those tend to be expensive dresses, and that color is not on sale.

@kariface:  The matisse blue in silk chiffon is gorgeous! It’s darker than it appears on taffeta (which is what the dresses in the above picture are, I think). I went to a J Crew bridal boutique with some of my bridesmaids. Everyone was of a different skin tone but it looked great on all of them (one of my BMs is very pale and has red hair). We ended up not going with J Crew because of financial reasons but the color was gorgeous! They actually even offered to send us matisse blue silk chiffon swatches (for the BMs who couldn’t make it that day) for free, so try calling them up and see if they’d send them to you. I threw mine out after we decided we weren’t going to use JCrew dresses, otherwise I’d have been happy to send them to you.
