I don’t live in Jacksonville, but I do live along the Gulf Coast, so we have similar weather patterns. Very rarely do we get full days of rain this time of year. If a storm comes through it lasts for an hour or two maybe and then pushes through. Not sure what weather service you’re looking at, but accuweather shows pretty decent weather this weekend. You will likely catch a shower this time of year, but it’s certainly not something I would cancel a trip over.

The fact that the forecast has changed several times already should be an indication of how unpredictable our weather is in the South. I live west of Florida, and we are expected to get a storm on Thursday night, but then it’s supposed to be clear through the weekend. Again, these aren’t full day storms. Some blow through in less than an hour. I would just have a back up plan to do some shopping or other indoor activities for a couple of hours those days before you head back to the beach.

I live in Jacksonville! So far this week has been absolutely the MOST GORGEOUS weather I have ever experienced living here.

Heres the deal with Jacksonville- it downpours, without fail, for about 1/2 hour in the late afternoon (3-4pm) every single day in the late spring and summer. That makes the weather predictors really hard to figure out, because it’ll say 80% chance of rain but that doesn’t mean its going to rain all day.

I use Weather Underground and look at the hourly tracking to get the most accurate predictions. Right now it says Thursday will be beautiful, but there will probably be a Thunderstorm at 11am and/or 3pm Friday. Saturday and Sunday are going to be bright and sunny and 85*

I certainly wouldn’t cancel a whole weekend over an hour or two of rain. Heres some good activities you can plan for Friday afternoon during the rain:

-Cummer Museum of Arts and Gardens

-Budweiser Brewery Tour (pay extra for the Beermaster tour, it’s worth it)

-Catch a movie at the gorgeous old fashioned Sun-Ray Cinema or San Marco Theater

Please let me know if I can give you any more recommendations for food or activities! I’ll list off Flying Iguana as a place you should totally eat at for beachside lunch even though you didn’t ask ๐Ÿ™‚

californiabride2013 :  which hotel are you staying at? There’s several beaches so it affects which I would recommend.

Sadly there aren’t many restaurants with a view because of the way the dunes are. But my favorite brunch in Jax is at the One Ocean Hotel and it has a gorgeous view. They’ve also got a fire pit on the deck overlooking the ocean so it’s a good place for nighttime cocktails.

Our favorite beach for eating out at and exploring restaurants is Atlantic/Neptune. That’s where you’ll find Flying Iguana, which has a wonderful lunchtime atmosphere with outdoor seating, but a sometimes outrageous wait because their tableside guac and margaritas are that good. You basically can’t go wrong with any upscale restaurant along the strip. Common Grounds is a great coffee place and another good place to hide from the rain. Joseph’s Pizza is a delicious hole in the wall with outdoor seating. For a fun bar atmosphere day or night with outdoor seating I’d say go to Poes.

Jacksonville Beach is generally speaking a younger party scene around there so it’s pretty easy to find a cheap bar to sit outside at along the boardwalk. I would recommend Blind Rabbit for nighttime burgers and whiskey flights. V Pizza is great for brick oven pizza and also has a fun bar attached so you can get fancy cocktails. Joe’s Crabshack is a tourist favorite but that’s because it’s got a fun atmosphere and seafood, so it’s worth a visit. For coffee definitely get an iced mocha at Bold Bean. They use real cocoa and it’s so good.

I’m also a floridian not far from Jax and don’t trust the forecast. The rain will pass if it happens at all and you’ll get sunshine ๐Ÿ™‚ The weather here very rarely stays rainy but the humidity might get ya ๐Ÿ˜›

I got married in St. Augustine (south of JAX), last year, on March 31 (on a sailboat, with no back up plans, so rain was a concern). The forecast said rain on the 31st for the entire week leading up to it. Even on the day before, it said rain. The day of…no rain, beautiful weather, gorgeous sunset.

We’re going back to St. Augustine this weekend to celebrate our first anniversary and plan to go out on that sailboat again. Of course, it says rain, but I’m not stressing about it ๐Ÿ™‚

I don’t live in Florida, but I’ve been there tons of times.  In my experience, it’s pretty much a given that it will rain almost everyday. It seems like it usually happens in the afternoon and only lasts for 30mins or so. It’s a tropical/subtropical climate. The only times I’ve been there where the rain was a major issue was during tropical storms or hurricanes.

californiabride2013 :  Spring break was last week for all the local schools including the Florida state colleges. And even during spring break this isn’t a destination so you won’t have any craziness.

But the typical Saturday night at Jacksonville Beach is definitely a 21+ party scene with drunk people and loud music. Atlantic/Neptune Beach is a much more adult affair, e.g. Live guitar or jazz music at nicer (but still casual dress) restaurants.

It’s Florida. Weather here seems to change every 5 minutes. Often we get mid-day storms that quickly let up,so don’t stress it.

californiabride2013 :  I don’t know. I’ve never been to Jacksonville.

TripAdvisor has destination specific forums. You could probably find a lot of good info and get answers to your questions over there.
