sooo….to go along with the DIY theme of our wedding (dessert table, decor, flowers, invites, homebrewed beer, hair, makeup, maybe bridesmaid dresses, etc.) I am going to can half-pint size jars of different flavors of jam for the favors. I think most favors are lame, and I love jam, and I love canning so that’s what I’m doing!! Plus, I can start canning early on in the summer and won’t have to rush to make the jam right before my wedding. Most importantly it’s cheap. I canned peach jam earlier this year just because, and I think it ended up being around $1 a jar including the jar and fruit. I’m excited!!

Your guests will love getting a delicious home made favor! They can easily be presented using your colors, or just twine and a tag.

YUM!! I would love to receive home made jam. If you get your friends and family involved in making the jam too it could be a lot of fun! This year my mother and I made peach jam from the tree in her back yard.

I LOVE this idea! And I love jam! Bonus! 🙂
Making the jam with your family/friends just adds to the experience!

I am doing the same thing but I made apple butter in the 4oz jars. I was thinking half pints to but the 4oz jars seem like the best little favor. I made to batches of apple butter and got 48 4 oz jars and 2 half pints as the test jars so my guests can try it before they take it. I love this idea!!!! I also going to put a ribbon around the jars too to make them look weddingy.

I did little jars of homemade caramel. Most of my guests ate it before the end of the night, LOL! I did little jam jar skirts that coordinated with a fabric button on their escort cards, each table had their own fabric. Yes, I’m crazy. BUT it looked adorable! Everyone loved it!

I’m going to rethink my favors and go with some jams (or caramel). My FI’s family doesn’t have much money to contribute to the wedding but they do like to pick local berries. I may ask them to help out and pick some berries next summer! I’m also into getting people practical gifts (so i know they’ll use it) and food is always used 😉 Love this idea!

This is such a great favor idea! You just inspired me to use jam as my favor! My grandma loved making jam, so I think this would be a great way to honor her 🙂 Plus, I think my mom, sister and I could have a lot of fun making it. And I love the fabric swatches on top.

I am going back and fourth between jam favors, cookie in a jar favors, or pie in a jar favors. My wedding is in Louisville, KY so I was thinking about doing derby pie if I did the pie in a jar….but the easiest thing to do would be the apple pie in a jar.
How far in advance do you all plan (or did you plan) to make your jar favors? I am totally NOT a week of wedding type of girl and it terrifies me to think I would have to wait to make these things. I wanna make ’em and have ’em ready at least a month beforehand.
@mandapanda: can you tell me how you did the apple butter? That sounds delish!
