Jamaica is Gorgeous.  Jamaica is AMAZING… year round.  Jamaica IS dangerous though so plan on spending the most time at your resort or on a guided tour, don’t go exploring on your own.

I would stick to the main resorts, that cater to American’s.  Jamaica is essentially a 3rd world nation (like many honeymoon destinations) so to them 3 star hotels are more like a best western or comfort inn, etc….

I could talk for ages about Jamaica though!  I highly rec the Iberostar grand… it’s an adult all inclusive, and is less chain like than the breezes and sandals.

My Fiance and I are getting married in Jamaica next april. We are going this April to see the resort and meet with the wedding coordinator. My FI’s family goes there often and LOVES it. They say the weather is beautiful, the views is breathtaking and the people are so nice. Def stay on the resort though.

Ill give more details when I get back in April!

We’re going there at the end of November. At first I wanted to go right after the wedding (mid-September) but was nervous about the weather – it can be their rainy season and there’s always the possibility of hurricanes. So, instead of becoming a Weather Channel insomniac, tracking every storm and checking the updated forecast 12 times a day, we decided to push it back and head out when it’s gray, nasty and snowy at home.

Ugh, sorry to burst your bubble but my fiance and I have visited jamaca and it was the WORST vacation place we have ever been to. If you are able to stay inside your resort, it should be fine, but entering outside of the resort is so extremely dangerous. We got hounded so bad, people stuffed bags of drugs into my fiances hand, I almost got beat up by a group of woman…it was just miserable…too bad because it is such a beautiful country.

I’ve been twice & I love it! Yeah, you can’t go out exploring on your own – that’s a bad idea, but as long as you stay with your resort, tour or whatever – you should be fine. Not sure where you’re going but def. check out Dunn River Falls – it’s sooooo cool.

I’m not sure about Sept/Oct though, I’d ask a travel agent about it since it’s storm season – I’ve never been down there at that time of year.

Fiance and booked a resort (Sandals Grande Ocho Rios) for the beginning of October 2010. I agree with most, that Jamacia is dangerous and scary when you are off the resorts. Fiance and I went there once for a cruise and were back on the ship within 20 minutes. We are very relaxed easy going people and want to give Jamaica a second chance.

Honestly, every place is what you make of it. It is your honeymoon do whatever you want and have fun!!

If they offer you anything on the island, like drugs (cause they will) all you have to do is say “no thank you”, they may ask a few more times but after you say that again a few more times they will stop. You have to understand that it is a island that depends on tourism, and people do come for the drugs…so they keep trying to sell them.

If you stay on the resorts or go off with tour guides/group, it will be the best vacation ever!

Have fun!!

(PS book insurance cause it is the end of hurricane season)

@ alishadhI’m sorry to hear that you guys had such a hard time. We actually didn’t have any problems. Did you stay with your group? We did have a couple guys that would walk the beaches and try to sell weed but if you ignored them or said no they’d just keep on walking.
