@dynamic_duo:

Hi!

We had to get the Affidavits
 for Bachelorhood (for men), and Spinsterhood (for women) but have yet to get the marriage cert. I found the wording so funny/interesting too !

How did you deal with changing your name since you paper work didn’t come for 6 months after?

🙂

Maybe in Jamaica they think that “spinster” just means never married or single and don’t think that it has any conotation about your age. I would be annoyed if I saw that on my marriage cert. too.

@dynamic_duo:

Thank you for the information.

 I heard the same thing about the name change information.

I did however subscribe to the website IamMrs.com so I’m hoping that make the process easier. 🙂

I’m Jamaican and my parents’ marriage cert says the same thing. It isn’t code for “crazy cat lady” or anything!

Oh wow!  I would’ve been ticked.  LoL, I guess it’s silly, but something like that would’ve really gotten under my skin.  You’re more rational than I am.. I probably would’ve been calling up someone in the courthouse in Montego Bay demanding an explanation.  LoL!

What does your marriage certificate look like?  Is it at least colorful and Caribbean looking?? LoL!! :o)

My husband & I got married in Negril, Jamaica in August and it only took 2 months to receive our marriage certificate.  I will have to check it and see what it reads.

In English legalese, spinster has no relation to age but simply means a woman of marriageable age who has not previously been married.
