I got married down in the USVIs and i learned quickly that island time is a real thing.  However, if you aren’t comfortable with her, then you should fire her and find someone new.

cassidiaa :  I didn’t have the issue with my planner because she was my friend and we had a deal that she would give me ideas and then I had to do most of the leg work, but some places took weeks to call me back!

Funny story about how they work down there.  We planned a welcome dinner the night before the wedding.  I talked to this restaurant and we worked out the details.  Everything sounded great. I asked what type of deposit he wanted and he said nothing.  I asked if he needed me to sign a contract.  Nope.  I was so nervous that they were going to forget about us.  I didn’t hear from them until 2 days before the dinner when we were already down there with our guests.  He called and honestly it couldn’t have been more perfect!

You have to reliquish some control, but it’s all worth it in the end.

If your wedding is still a year out, she may have others that are taking more of a priority right now because they’re upcoming.  She’s not going to be able to get back to you instantly about most things if she’s popular and busy, so I wouldn’t worry about it.

Hi,

I live in Jamaica and am actually a wedding planner. Just a note most planners respond to emails within 48 hours or less. The hotel planners will take longer, that is the norm. But for a private planner communication is usually more frequent. Plus your wedding is in May which for a destination weddings its still close.

You can possibly suggest scheduled regular consulations with her to make sure you are comfortable with the progress and that everything is going according to plan or request a schedule of what you will be doing and when so you can keep on top of things.

I got married in Jamaica and used a wedding planner that was recommended to me by my travel agent. I never spoke to her on the phone – we only communicated via email. There were some times she was slow to respond but overall her responsiveness was great. Once everything was booked there was a period of several months where we did not communicate because it honestly was not necessary until we were 60 days out from the wedding

If your planner is not meeting your expectations despite you voicing your concerns, I would part ways with her. I can send you a message with my planner’s website if you’re interested – we got married in March of this year.
