Tbh I’m pretty ignorant about fancy vs non-fancy. I don’t know the different or what makes them “fancy?” To me, it’s about how it LOOKS, not what it’s labeled. If it looks beautiful, get it! If you’re disappointed with the color then keep looking. Doesn’t JA let you purchase it and then you can return it if you don’t like it?

I know yellow diamonds because I had to buy one and I educated myself. The color range is there for a reason – because YZ diamonds not the same as a fancy light yellow, let alone fancy yellow (and consequently they are much less expensive)

I would look at diamonds by Lauren. They have great colored stones! And if you want a YZ diamond, they can set it in a way that makes it look more yellow. This is what Gia fancy yellow looks like:

ETA  Just to clarify,:the main stone in the halo is fancy yellow. The stones around it are colorless diamonds, as are the stones in the eternity band.

@weddingbeehives:  That is absolutely the best course of action. Very smart to wait a bit longer, save more money, do more research. It’s a big ticket item and you should have what you want, not make do. Please do check out diamonds by Lauren. They have so many beautiful colored diamond rings to ogle lol. My ring was from Leon Mege who I recommend highly if you have a little extra money you want to spend. (This is why I have only 2 of his bespoke rings – I rarely find myself with extra money lol). Diamonds by Lauren is great quality and much more reasonable. I would only go to James Allen for a white diamond, personally. Obviously they don’t “get” colored diamonds.

@weddingbeehives:  The other site to check out is Leibish. Colored diamond aficionados really like their stones. I think waiting 6 months is fine if it results in a ring you’re going to be happy with in the long term. Deferred gratification never hurt anyone lol.

Just check the prize. Y-Z color are wayyyyy more cheap than white diamond, while fancy yellow are more expensive.

I just bought a L oval 0,65ct for $1000, and have look at 0,56ct Fancy yellow for $3200.

@weddingbeehives:  I wouldn’t get it.  unless it has a GIA that says light yellow fancy or something of the sort.  Y-z is a low grade (therefore should cost very little) when just a hair more yellow suddenly makes it a good thing & worth more money.

Their explanation is like saying “You should pay VS prices because this SI stone is eye clean.”  No, they’re two different things with two different monetary impacts.
